Swiftwater Park (Soldotna City Park)
Overview
Overview
Swiftwater Park, located in the heart of Soldotna, offers a peaceful retreat for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Kenai Peninsula. This municipal park serves as a serene home base for those who value proximity to city conveniences while maintaining a quiet, park-like atmosphere. It is designed for visitors who appreciate a straightforward, no-frills camping experience that emphasizes outdoor access and relaxation over luxury amenities.
Location & Surroundings
Situated directly along the banks of the Kenai River, the park provides an incredible vantage point for experiencing Alaska’s world-famous salmon runs. The location is nestled within a lush, forested setting that buffers the noise of the main road, making it feel secluded despite its central position. It acts as an ideal waypoint for road-trippers traveling down the Sterling Highway, offering easy access to essential local services and regional travel routes.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is well-equipped to handle standard RV needs while focusing on its stunning riverfront access. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained gravel pads that accommodate a variety of vehicle sizes. Essential facilities include access to clean restrooms and designated picnic areas that encourage spending time outdoors. While the amenities are functional rather than resort-style, the reliable waste dump stations and convenient water fill-ups ensure that all the basics are covered for a comfortable stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for most guests is the immediate access to world-class fishing right from the riverbank. Beyond the river, the park is a short distance from the Soldotna Visitor Center and various local museums that highlight the history of the Kenai Peninsula. Outdoor enthusiasts often use this site as a starting point for hiking the various nearby nature trails or as a base for exploring the breathtaking wilderness of the nearby Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.
Who This Park Is Best For
Swiftwater Park is perfectly suited for anglers, nature photographers, and travelers who prefer a quiet, scenic environment over high-density commercial resorts. If you are an RVer who enjoys waking up to the sound of flowing water and wants to spend your days exploring the local ecosystem, this park will meet your needs perfectly. It is an excellent choice for those seeking an authentic Alaskan experience that prioritizes nature and accessibility.

Thanks for updating your website to reflect you DON’T have a dump station!! Maybe put a BIG PIECE of GRAY tape over the RV DUMP 20.00 it is misleading since you claim it’s been closed for a year!! And you definitely know how to use tape as that is what you used to reflect the increase of night camping!!

Nice not too crowded, privacy and number of options available to choose between to do onsite fishing. Nice fire pits in the individual sites to utilize

We absolutely loved staying at the swiftwater campground, they are large campgrounds and you pay at the front. It isn’t expensive and such a great location right up against the Kenai, it allowed us to fish day and even night if we wanted to. They have lots of ramps down to the water. It seemed pretty clean and it’s a very convenient location, they have restaurants and grocery stores just down the road which allows door dash if needed. We liked everything about it and caught lots of fish. If we come back to Alaska we will be staying and fishing here. They have have fillet tables on the ramps next to the water where you can clean and fillet the fish.
