Sylvan (Lanesboro City Park)

Overview

Sylvan Park offers a serene setting within the charming town of Lanesboro, often called the Bed and Breakfast capital of Minnesota. This city-managed campground provides a perfect blend of nature and community access, situated right next to the historic downtown district. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the Root River Valley while enjoying a peaceful, park-like atmosphere surrounded by towering limestone bluffs and mature hardwood trees.

Location & Surroundings

The park is nestled along the banks of the Root River, providing immediate access to the water for trout fishing or simply watching the gentle current flow by. Its location in the heart of Lanesboro means guests are within a short walking distance of local boutiques, artisan cafes, and the renowned Commonweal Theatre. The surrounding landscape is defined by the dramatic driftless region topography, featuring steep hills and lush greenery that create a natural sanctuary.

Amenities & Park Features

While primarily a city-owned facility, the park provides essential comforts including electric hookups and well-maintained shower facilities for campers. RVers will find level sites situated on grass or gravel, with many spots benefiting from the shade of historic elms and maples. Park features include:

  • Clean and accessible restroom and shower facilities.
  • A scenic fishing pond located right on the grounds.
  • Multiple picnic shelters for group gatherings.
  • A large community playground for children.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The crown jewel of the area is the Root River State Trail, which runs directly through town and offers over sixty miles of paved paths for biking and hiking. Outdoor enthusiasts often spend their afternoons tubing or kayaking down the river, with local outfitters located just steps from the campground. For those seeking a cultural experience, the local arts scene is vibrant, featuring several galleries and seasonal festivals that celebrate the unique heritage of the Minnesota bluffs.

Who This Park Is Best For

Sylvan Park is ideal for travelers who prioritize convenience and outdoor recreation over high-end resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a classic park experience and cyclists wanting to hit the trails without needing to drive to a trailhead. If you appreciate a quiet, small-town vibe where you can park the rig and explore everything on foot, this campground is an exceptional choice for your next driftless adventure.

Tennis courts near here are always fun to play at. They do have a lot of weeds and are not very well kept however!

We've camped here for years. Love the place. Not happy about the jump in price but I guess it's understandable

It's pretty nice for a city campground. The location is perfectly tucked back by the trout ponds near the library. There is a beautiful park with a nicely shaded playground right there in the mix. They have flush toilets and a shower house. Each site has water and electricity. First come basis with a pay box system. About a dozen or so RV sites and another dozen or so tent sites. $40 RV, $25 tents per night.

Some clarification is needed. Riverview campground is next to the football field above the dam. Nice place no drive through sites
