Tahoe/Goose Meadow
Overview
Goose Meadow Campground offers a quintessential Sierra Nevada camping experience within the Tahoe National Forest. Situated along the scenic corridor between Truckee and Lake Tahoe, this forest service gem provides a peaceful retreat for RVers who prioritize natural beauty over luxury resort amenities. The campground is characterized by its towering Jeffrey pines and its proximity to the rushing waters of the Truckee River, creating a serene and immersive atmosphere for a mountain getaway.
Location & Surroundings
Located conveniently off Highway 89, this site provides easy access to the high-altitude wonders of Northern California. The Truckee River flows just a short distance from the campsites, offering soothing sounds and immediate fishing opportunities. Guests are surrounded by a lush forest canopy that provides ample shade during the summer months. Its central position makes it an ideal basecamp for exploring both the historic charm of downtown Truckee and the alpine beauty of Tahoe City.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a rustic, dry-camping destination, meaning there are no hookups available for RVs. Each site is equipped with a paved parking spur, a picnic table, and a fire ring. Because this is active bear country, every site includes a bear-resistant food locker that must be used by all visitors for safety. The facility provides vault toilets and seasonal drinking water, ensuring the basic necessities are met while maintaining the park’s rugged and authentic wilderness character.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities nearby. The Truckee River Bike Trail is easily accessible, providing a paved path for cyclists and walkers to reach the shores of Lake Tahoe. During the summer, rafting down the river is a popular pastime for families. Hikers can explore the nearby Pacific Crest Trail or take a short drive to Palisades Tahoe for world-class mountain views and seasonal events in the famous Olympic Valley area.
Who This Park Is Best For
Goose Meadow is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who enjoy a boondocking style of camping with the added benefit of a paved site. It is perfect for those seeking a quiet, nature-focused escape rather than a bustling resort environment. While it can accommodate moderate-sized rigs, it is best suited for small to mid-sized campers looking to immerse themselves in the California wilderness while staying close to popular regional attractions and hiking trails.

The restrooms are well maintained compared with Yosemite and June lake, is a good place to camping, however the noisy highway takes away the peaceful that nature offers. Overall we had a enjoyable time.

The campground offers excellent sites with well-maintained restroom facilities, though occasionally there are issues with odors. Access to the river is somewhat limited, but still available.

I love this campground so much. The host has been here for over a decade does his job wonderfully. The campground and bathrooms are always kept clean and ready

Goose Meadow Campground is a gem tucked close to town, yet it offers the solitude and natural beauty that any angler would appreciate The campsites are all solid, but I staked my claim on one that backs right up to the Truckee River. It was the perfect spot to cast a line at dawn, with trout practically jumping out of the water. The restroom looked newly painted and clean, just what you need after a long day on the river. This place has all the makings of a great camp, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates good fishing and a well-kept site.

No functioning toilet, just one big hole. Only one fountain for the entire campsite, which is used to wash your hands, brush your teeth, wash dishes, and drink water. No toilet seat covers and no hand soap is provided. The location is not very convenient and is right next to a loud road.
