This can be a great camping spot if you get a good site along the Truckee river as opposed to sites along Hwy 89. Close to town of Truckee and Olympic Valley and right on the river this is a chill spot to enjoy the river and this part of Tahoe.

We camped here for 4 days in June with a big rig. As everyone says, road noise takes some getting used to and is less than ideal. Views of the river are 🤩 and it’s easy to access - a little beach area of sorts we found near site 38. Some sites were very unlevel - our site, #40 being one of them. We managed okay but the asphalt was very lumpy and uneven. Our friends had site #39 and it was very flat and easy for a big rig. Both sites were good spots for Starlink. Every site is spacious, provides large picnic tables and a bear locker for food storage if needed. Water spigots are throughout camp but we ended up having to dump our tanks 4-5 miles away at a Chevron for $7 with the purchase of fuel. As for location, it was 40 minutes to the beautiful Sand Harbor Beach area and 45-50 minutes down to Tallac Historic Point and Inspiration Point areas… for the price of this stay, we didn’t mind that at all!! We’d stay again 😊

Easy in and out of the campsites with all of the pads that we could see paved. Potable water spigots and (clean) vault toilets scattered throughout. Waste receptacles are regularly serviced and near all the vault toilets. The park is very clean but there is some significant highway noise that persists all day and night which eliminates the sounds of the river. The trees are trimmed sufficiently to prevent RV scraping but it’s still a good idea to maintain awareness. Site 59 sloped toward the river by 6” and to the right by 2”. You might need to back your tires onto lift pads to help achieve level. Several of the sites we checked are similar to various degrees. Our 38’ coach fit fine with room to spare and no side scuffing. I’d stay here again just for the river view and wonderful pine smell. No sightings of bears but no reason they wouldn’t come here either….

We loved it! We stayed at site 31 and we could hear the hum of traffic from it but it wasnt bad, just sounded like white noise. I think it would have been really hard to be closer to the highway as there are cars on the road all night. We were right by the river which was lovely. We didn’t realize there wasnt a shower here, which fortunately was not an issue for our one night stay but it would be hard if we were tent camping for a longer period of time.

Literally on the highway. Can’t even hear my buds over the traffic that’s about 15 feet from the campsite. Better off pretty much anywhere else. Semi traffic all night long, don’t you just love the great outdoors?

Call me old-fashioned but sleeping next to a highway was never my idea of camping. Important notes: Almost 1/3 of campsites we less than 25 L/F from the BUSY road. (No dividers @ road a drunk driver can land in the camp mo problem, minimal tree cover, lots of noise and headlights going by all night.) Our campsite did not have enough level space for a tent. We rented a spot for a 35' trailer and there was not enough room for it. Several other campers had this problem as well. Only a few spaces can actually accommodate what they claim it will. Oddly, Facilities were very clean. From what we heard, some of the cleanest along this highway.... yes, believe it or not, people camp along the highway so much there is more than one Campground... There are some camps close enough to the river they muffle the road noise. Good luck!

Quick getaway campground with vault toilets and water. Bear boxes, fire pits, and picnic tables at every site. We have come here for joint campout with friends many times due to its convenient location and easy access to Truckee River. There is noticeable road noise and some spots are small. Great "city" camping area with gorgeous river views.

I love this campground. The location is only about 1.5 miles south of the lovely town of Truckee with great restaurants, super hardware store, SaveMart groceries, and a new Grocery Outlet. Want a cold beer, firewood, ice, or forgot the eggs? You just have to drive a mile and a half to Truckee. A beautiful 12 mile drive takes you to the world famous Lake Tahoe where you will also find amazing amenities including a wonderful North Tahoe Arts gallery and store with works by local artisans. Be sure to hike the spectacular Rubicon trail which starts at the D.L. Bliss Campground. Granite Flats Campground does have the "traffic noise" and I do recommend you not stay in the sites along the road. Plan ahead or check for cancellations or go in the middle of the week so you can reserve the sites that are NOT #7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 47, 49, 51, 53, 67, or 68. If you are desperate and have strong ear plugs then be forewarned that those sites are basically the frontage road for HWY 89. hahaha. The camp host, Scott, is very dedicated and works hard many hours beyond his contracted job hours in an effort to make sure each campsite is clean for the next reservation. PLEASE people, pick up your cigarette butts, pistachio nut shells, bottle caps, dental floss, and crumpled up foil. These do not belong in the fire pit either. The hard working camp host takes pride in his work and I see him bending over picking up some campers dental floss on the ground and I am sad that some campers are not more considerate. The warning that there are bears is genuine but there are very strong and large metal bear containers provided.If you are staying in the hot days you might want a shade structure to place over the hot metal food storage box. Keep food and scented items out of your car and tent. One of my photos is of a bear in the Granite Flat Campground in August 2020. Remember that bears don't see very well but have a keen sense of smell . . . and are smarter than you think . . . Don't sleep in your tent with marshmallow spilled on your clothes. hahaha. Three stars for road noise, no showers, and pit toilets but seven stars for Lake Tahoe proximity location, great camp host, and riverfront. Enjoy your stay!
