Visited the highest point in Missouri. Also climb the tower and what a view! It is absolutely beautiful!

One of Missouri State Park's best and a lovely place to be on top of the mountain with minimal effort. It's also a great place to hike on the mountain with a lot of effort - and good for you. I thoroughly enjoyed my hike on the Mina Sauks Falls trail even though it warrants the "rugged" classification. Frankly, I was a bit surprised that it wasn't more difficult given the dire warnings, but I might be minimizing. It took me about 2-1/2 hours to hike the full 3-mile loop. Some of that, though, was setting off on several false starts to return from the falls; blazing there isn't good. I'm already planning a return trip.

OK, I went there to get Missouri's high point, and I got that. There is a sidewalk to it and beautiful wildflowers along the way, but no views. The last bit to get to the park is a gravel road, it has pit toilets, and first come first served tent camping. I did not go to the waterfall. Signs say that waterfall is only present during wet weather. I was there the first part of September and it was dry.

This is a great little state park up in the Saint Francois Mountains. The park has no entry fee and is open for day use from sunrise to sunset. A small number of campsites are available for a nightly fee. Campsites are only available walk-up and can't be reserved in advance. Roads are gravel but well enough maintained for city vehicles. There are multiple trails including access to the highest point in the state at 1,772 feet above sea level.

It was a nice park. Trails were a bit steep and rocky and at times not marked well but it was pretty, and a nice hike. My biggest problem was Google directions. Phone service is spotty in the area and Google maps took me to Johnson's shut-in and told me I had arrived at Taum Sauk State park. I was competely lost and approximately 30 minutes from where I needed to be.

Beautiful state park with an awesome trail. The Mina Sauk Falls trail is a little challenging but worth it to see the tallest waterfall in Missouri.

Beautiful rugged hike. Well worth it. Visit a day or two after some rain to see the falls.

This is beautiful State Park. I just completed the Russell Mountain to Taum Sauk trail, and boy was it tough. It wasn't without rewards though. Great scenery, lots of Prairie Lizards, Taum Sauk Tower, Mina Sauk Falls, etc. So much to do, but it's not for beginners. There are easier trails in the park though.
