Not my first time staying here. Always a good experience but this time we arrived at check in 2pm. Had the mower guys cutting from 2 pm till dark. Blowing dry died grass all over our site and tent. Didn’t appreciate the noise all day when trying to enjoy the camping life.

This place is gorgeous! It's about an hour drive from our home in South Lexington. We had a campout there with a troop of one of my Children's. The primitive camping area is clean and very well maintained. Nice s'more area around the campfire! We did not encounter any Critters but we keep a really clean camp area. Shower houses were not spotless but very nice and well maintained in terms of mechanics. Laundry room was clean and well maintained. Fishing off of the boat dock was really nice and convenient.

Overall this is a nice campground for primitive camping. The majority of the sites are spaced out and private but unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures online of the sites so the one we got was not private. We stayed at site #4 and it is best suited for a group of friends because your neighbors are 10-15 yards away with no trees or anything in between. The biggest issue with site #4 is there is no picnic table. Luckily we were only staying one night so not a big deal but there was no mention of it on the booking website (Reserve America). Aside from that, it is well kept and the bath house was pretty immaculate for such a full weekend. Several playgrounds nearby if you have kids to occupy. The main overall issue is the lack of staffing. I'm not sure if it's the usual or if there is a lack of staff in general but we got in shortly after 7PM and there was no ranger or staff to be found to get firewood. No honor system or anything so we had to venture out to find some after we got our tent up because the main office was closed as well. As a heads up, the Dollar General does not sell wood nor does the new Lakecity Mart gas station. We found a large white house/business of some sort that had an honor system and it was $10 for a massive bundle of wood. Oh and when we left on Sunday, as of about noon, there still wasn't any staff anywhere in the park that we saw. Not sure what was up with that. Some of the hiking trails were well marked and up kept but some others were not so if you aren't good with navigation, choose wisely. Biggest issue we had was with the Gazebo Loop Trail/Pioneer Trail. Several spots were overgrown and not marked so you had to guess a little bit until you ran back into a well worn trail. Didn't do any lake activities but the water looked nice and there was a lot of activity on it. Nice boat ramps as well. Overall a nice stay but choose your site wisely. I took several pictures of each site to help others in the future. I didn't get site 7 or 10 because they were occupied but they are pretty nice as well but 10 is slightly open and not as secluded.

Really great place for hiking and camping. Its a horse trail too which is great for people with horses but sadly people don't clean up after them on the trails. If its rude to not clean up after dogs, its rude not to clean up after your horse. Very clean overall. Bathrooms, trails, sites and lots. Sometimes the trails are a little muddy so you'll want hiking boots. Camping is pretty good here except for the 2-night minimum. Theres horse trailer and trailer sites as well as group and individual primitive sites. The primitive campsites are hit or miss. Id recommend scoping out the one you want before booking if possible. Most are aright but there's a couple on a steep hill, too close to the next site, or muddy.

One of the single best campgrounds we’ve been to in America. Large sites with water and electric, easy to park and get set down. The playground was nice and the restrooms were clean and well built. Will absolutely come again. Awesome side note: this place is almost equidistant to all the major distilleries on the bourbon trail!

Had to make a pit stop prior to hitting the water. Pretty clean and mostly spider free. I appreciate it being open!!!

Overall we had the best week of camping and it was our best experience at any Kentucky State Park campground so far. We loved being able to rent boats at the marina and everyone was so friendly! Only complaint is that the bathrooms at the campground need more attention. The womens was out of toilet paper for almost 2 days. And the trash was only emptied once the entire week we were there.

The reservation attendant and the groundskeeper guy were incredibly courteous, stayed here earlier this Spring! Thank you both very very much, especially when you turned the leaf blower on low for me- as i walked up to the mens room to touch up the old face hairs that one time. Little gestures like that mean a lot man, TY tp all for being present in the 'gift' of NATURE 🏕
