Tenkiller Ferry Lake - COE/Sizemore Landing
Overview
Sizemore Landing at Tenkiller Ferry Lake offers a quiet retreat on the northern reaches of Oklahoma’s clearest waters. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this park provides a primitive camping experience that prioritizes natural beauty over modern luxuries. It serves as a scenic gateway to the upper Illinois River, where the rugged landscape of the Ozark foothills meets the deep, emerald-blue depths of the lake reservoir.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just a short drive from Tahlequah, the park is surrounded by the Cookson Hills, offering a rugged backdrop for any outdoor adventure. The upper end of the lake near the landing is characterized by steep limestone bluffs and dense hardwood forests. This area is generally less crowded than the larger southern parks, making it an ideal spot for viewing native Oklahoma wildlife and enjoying the peaceful sounds of the water.
Amenities & Park Features
Facilities at Sizemore Landing are designed for those who appreciate a rustic lifestyle. The park features a well-maintained boat ramp, allowing easy access for fishing and pleasure crafts. Most sites are primitive, offering sturdy picnic tables and fire rings for classic campfire cooking. While you will not find full hookups here, the lack of modern infrastructure ensures a quiet environment where the focus remains entirely on the natural surroundings.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Anglers will find excellent opportunities for bass and crappie fishing right from the shoreline or by boat. The nearby Illinois River is famous for trout fishing and seasonal float trips, providing a different pace of water activity. For those interested in local history, the city of Tahlequah, the capital of the Cherokee Nation, is nearby with museums and cultural sites that offer a deep dive into the region's rich heritage.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for self-contained RVers who enjoy boondocking or off-grid camping in a serene setting. If you prefer the hum of the forest over the hum of a neighbor's air conditioner, this is the place for you. It is a fantastic choice for kayakers and boaters looking for direct water access without the hustle of a major marina. Sizemore Landing rewards travelers who seek solitude.

Beautiful, serene, and quiet. Good for fishing and being one with nature. No running water or electric; however, perfect for what it is.
