The Ovens Natural Park
Overview
The Ovens Natural Park is a privately owned 190-acre wilderness reserve located on the breathtaking South Shore of Nova Scotia. Famous for its spectacular sea caves and rich history, the park offers a rugged coastal experience that captures the essence of the Atlantic. Visitors can explore the same shoreline that once sparked a local gold rush, making it a unique destination where geological wonders meet maritime heritage in a peaceful, natural setting.
Location & Surroundings
Tucked away in Riverport on the Feltzen South peninsula, the park boasts a commanding view of the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of Lunenburg Bay. The surrounding landscape is a mix of dense spruce forests and dramatic slate cliffs that have been sculpted by the sea for centuries. Its position on the famous Lighthouse Route makes it a convenient yet secluded base for exploring the rocky headlands and hidden coves of this iconic coastal region.
Amenities & Park Features
While the park emphasizes a natural, rustic vibe, it provides essential comforts for modern travelers. The park features RV sites with water and electrical hookups, along with unserviced spots for those seeking a more traditional experience. On-site facilities include a seasonal swimming pool, a playground for children, and the Ol’ Miner’s Diner. A central highlight is the clifftop hiking trail, which provides safe access to the balconies overlooking the booming sea caves below.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The park is perfectly positioned for day trips to the historic town of Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its vibrant waterfront and the Bluenose II. Nature enthusiasts can also head to nearby Hirtle’s Beach for sand and surf or explore the artisanal shops in Mahone Bay. Inside the park, guests often spend their days gold panning on the beach or attending live acoustic music sessions held at the central pavilion during the summer months.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is a prime choice for adventure-seeking RVers who value natural beauty and a quiet, unplugged atmosphere over high-tech resort amenities. It is especially well-suited for families who enjoy outdoor exploration and photographers looking to capture the raw power of the ocean. If you prefer falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves and waking up to salty sea breezes, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

The park is amazing. For the very small $12 entrance fee, you get to have an amazing walk to some of the most stunning views in all of nova scotia! I went nonverbal & collected rocks the entire day, it was amazing! I forgot we had a map, but we checked out every single area anyway. Do not miss the blowhole or the caves, you will be sorry! We paid the day entrance fee, we did not stay here. To the haters complaining about the lack of challenging hike... It has to be accessible to people of all levels. It's a tourist attraction, for tourists! There are a lot of senior citizens using poles & walkers to get around. Be mindful of them, you'll be one someday.

Go to sleep to the sound of waves and have coffee with an amazing view of the ocean. It can't be beat. The sea cave trail is a fun, easy hike with photo opportunity after photo opportunity. Live music in the restaurant in the evenings. Cozy, rustic cottages. My husband and I are very grateful to have had the opportunity to visit this beautiful place.

The views were amazing and the cabins were a decent price, even if it was a little run down. The floor was soft in spots and you could feel it bow with when stepping on it. Also found the general store was way over priced. $3.00 for a chocolate bar, $4 for a half a bag of ice. Overall it was a pleasant experience, but if we visited again, we would look for other accommodations.

Such a wonderful experience. Beautiful place - well maintained. The trail and the caves are awesome and worth the trip. Only issue we had in our group was the pool. It's beautiful and deep and clean but it is open for very limited hours (12-5) so with our young kids and contending with weather, it became this big glaring thing they were constantly asking when they could use. We ended up having to plan our days around pool hours and then ended up staying long after check out just so they could finally enjoy it in the sun.
