Overview

Timberline Campground offers a quintessential Northern Michigan camping experience nestled within 20 acres of lush, wooded terrain. Located in the heart of Benzie County, this family-oriented park provides a peaceful retreat for those looking to disconnect from the hustle of daily life while remaining close to the region's top natural wonders. Whether you are arriving in a large motorhome or a small travel trailer, the park strikes a fine balance between rustic ambiance and modern reliability.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Benzonia, Michigan, the park serves as a central hub for exploring the scenic Leelanau Peninsula and the shores of Lake Michigan. The surrounding landscape is defined by the glacier-carved beauty of Crystal Lake and the gentle flow of the Betsie River. Guests are treated to a canopy of mature trees that provide shade and privacy, creating an immersive forest environment that feels worlds away from the highway while remaining easily accessible for larger rigs.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility is designed to accommodate a variety of camping styles with full hookup sites including 30 and 50-amp electrical service. Families often gather at the heated swimming pool or the community playground, which serves as a social center for younger travelers. On-site conveniences include clean restroom facilities, laundry services, and a camp store stocked with essentials like ice and firewood. For those who enjoy traditional outdoor fun, the park features basketball courts and designated areas for horseshoes.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

One of the primary draws of staying at Timberline Campground is its proximity to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, located just a short drive to the north. Visitors can spend their days hiking massive sand dunes or visiting the historic Point Betsie Lighthouse. Anglers and paddlers will appreciate the easy access to the Platte and Betsie Rivers, which are famous for salmon runs and scenic float trips. The nearby town of Frankfort offers charming boutiques and lakeside dining along the Lake Michigan coast.

Very nice people at camp store and on the phone. Beautiful location. Bathhouses are kept clean. Sites are pretty spacious for a private campground! Playset and yard games available. We come every year!

We love this campground and the area it is in. We've stayed several times and every time we show up we're treated like neighbors and friends. Very friendly staff. Very clean everywhere. Tons for kids to do. Highly recommend!!!☺️☺️☺️

Loved the pools, showers were clean and great water pressure. Just a little disappointed at the size of our site and how close they were to your neighbor camping beside you. Location was great near a lot of great things to do. Looked like there was some pretty good sites but we unfortunately didn't have one.

Timberline is everything you could want from a campground and more! We stayed in a very spacious tent site that was a short walk from the clean showers and restrooms. To compliment these nice facilities were very accommodating and friendly employees. I also appreciated being able to buy ice and firewood on site. This was an excellent place to relax as we explored Lake Michigan and the dunes. We'll be back!

Such a beautiful campground. We stayed on a site in the "old" part of the campground. A whole new section with dozens of sites was just recently opened. And you would think that the desirable sites would be the new ones. But the older sites have been so well maintained that for us it was better to take advantage of the beauty of the more mature trees and vegetation. Our son camped with his family in the site next to ours, and we all had a great time. The grandkids took advantage of the beautiful pools. Our son used the washers and dryers and said they were handy and clean. We reserved the same site for next year, and added a couple of days so we could enjoy the campground and the local area for an even longer time. We would recommend this campground to anyone who asks
