Traders Hill Park

Overview

Traders Hill Park offers a serene and historically rich camping experience on the banks of the St. Marys River in Folkston, Georgia. Once a bustling 18th-century trading post and the original seat of Charlton County, this park now serves as a **peaceful riverside retreat** for travelers. It provides a rustic atmosphere where the natural beauty of South Georgia takes center stage, making it an excellent alternative to more crowded commercial resorts.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled just a few miles southwest of downtown Folkston, the park is defined by its lush canopy of **Southern pines and Spanish moss**. The property borders the winding St. Marys River, providing a quiet backdrop of flowing water and local wildlife. Its secluded location ensures a dark sky for stargazing while remaining close enough to town for essential supplies and local dining, striking a perfect balance between isolation and convenience.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed for simplicity and outdoor enjoyment, offering various facilities to accommodate RVers and tent campers alike. Key features include:

  • RV sites equipped with **water and electrical hookups** for a comfortable stay.
  • A public **boat ramp** providing direct access to the St. Marys River for fishing and paddling.
  • Picnic pavilions and a playground area, making it a great spot for family gatherings.
  • A clean bathhouse with shower facilities to serve those staying in the primitive or hookup areas.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find themselves perfectly positioned to explore the **Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge**, located just a short drive away. This massive wilderness offers swamp tours, boardwalks, and exceptional birdwatching opportunities. For railfans, the famous **Folkston Funnel** is a must-visit destination in town, where you can watch dozens of trains pass through the region daily. Fishing and kayaking on the river remain the most popular on-site activities.

Who This Park Is Best For

Traders Hill Park is ideal for travelers who prioritize **natural scenery and historical significance** over luxury resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for fishermen looking for easy river access and for RVers who want a quiet, budget-friendly base to explore the Okefenokee Swamp. If you enjoy a laid-back, rustic environment where you can listen to the sounds of the river, this park will fit your travel style perfectly.

Nice clean campgrounds. Small adequate bathroom facilities. The original site of the Charlton County courthouse. A boat ramp down the hill with plenty of parking.

Very small campground with sites for everyone. Washroom facilities are below average but functional. I camped in the tent no service area with my truck camper under beautiful mature trees
