Twin Bears Wooded Campground

Overview

Twin Bears Wooded Campground offers a serene, natural escape nestled in the heart of Northern Michigan. As the name suggests, this destination is characterized by its dense forest canopy, providing ample shade and a private atmosphere for every visitor. It serves as a quiet alternative to busier lakeside resorts while remaining close to the region's premier water features. Travelers often appreciate the laid-back environment where the focus is on the simple joys of traditional camping and the beauty of the surrounding wilderness.

Location & Surroundings

Located in Indian River, MI, the campground is perfectly positioned between Burt Lake and Mullett Lake. This area is famous for the Inland Waterway, a unique chain of lakes and rivers that stretches across the tip of the mitten. The park itself is tucked away from the main highway noise, surrounded by lush woodland that creates a sense of seclusion. Its location provides easy access to the village of Indian River, making it convenient to grab supplies or enjoy a local meal after a day spent outdoors.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides essential services to ensure a comfortable stay for both RVers and tent campers. Guests can find sites equipped with water and electric hookups, as well as a limited number of full hookup options. The grounds include the following features:

  • A clean shower house and restroom facilities.
  • A community playground for children.
  • A camp store for essentials, ice, and wood.
The spacious, wooded lots ensure that even larger rigs have a sense of personal space. Each site also typically includes a fire ring and picnic table to complete the classic camping experience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure seekers will find plenty to do just minutes from the park. A visit to the National Shrine of the Cross in the Woods is a primary attraction for many travelers. Water enthusiasts can launch boats at nearby Burt Lake State Park or explore the scenic Indian River by kayak or canoe. For those who prefer land-based recreation, the region is a hub for ORV and snowmobile trails, offering year-round excitement. Additionally, the short drive to Mackinaw City allows for easy day trips to the famous Mackinac Island.

Who This Park Is Best For

Twin Bears is an ideal choice for travelers who prefer a rustic and quiet atmosphere over a high-traffic resort experience. It is particularly well-suited for families looking to reconnect in nature and boaters who need a reliable basecamp near the Inland Waterway. If you value heavily shaded campsites and a peaceful night’s sleep under the stars, this park fits your travel style perfectly. It is a great match for those exploring Northern Michigan who want a central, forest-focused location.

This campground was… unique. The amenities were nice, but the campground was noisy from sun up to sundown. The first night, our neighbors were blaring a podcast until midnight. The second night, we were woken by adults using a loud microphone at 2am just for entertainment, management was nowhere to be seen. The doors to the bathroom were also constantly being slammed. Not to mention the odors and messiness of the restrooms. Workers seemed interesting, made fun of my age when purchasing alcohol at the camp store. Only worth the money if you’re looking for a party spot, not somewhere to peacefully camp. Made for a very disappointing, restless weekend.

We had 3 sites from Thursday to Monday and what can we say. WE LOVE TWIN BEARS WOODED CAMPGROUND! The new owners and staff are so nice and hospitable! There is so.much for kids to do. We loved candy bar bingo!!! The pool is so neat and shaped like Michigan. The new owners and staff are doing a great job and we can't wait to see what happens in the future!! We are definitely coming back and recommending this campground to everyone! P.s could you please tell the staff member with the short blonde hair who did bingo the first night (Aug. 8th)that she is Awesome and we hope her and her husband are back again next season!!!

Just spent a quiet relaxing long weekend in a beautiful wooded clean campsite. The first sites I choose were to small so we requested bigger ones if possible and to our surprise there was no hesitation from the owners. They were more concerned that we were comfortable. They were very kindand told us about the journey to becoming the new owners. The bathrooms and showers were so clean and smelled clean when you walked in. So much for kids today and dog friendly!!!! Love this place and will return in a few weeks. Donna&Darin

We had a great weekend and will definitely be going back! The pool is shaped like Michigan and my girl loved the water features! The new owners are super nice, helpful, and they're trying to revamp things. They've added a few fun spinners to the mini golf where you spin and do what it says for your putt, which made it so much more fun! We played candy bar bingo and also went on a wagon ride that my daughter loved! Is a very clean park and clean bathrooms! Absolutely loved camping there just as much as an adult as I did as a kid.

The owners are super friendly and incredibly accommodating! Our family has camped here in previous years and did not experience the kind, friendly, welcoming experience at all!. There has been humongous growth since, from the cleanliness of the bathrooms to the new owners making sure each and every campsite is personally okay. They are very often seen driving around checking on their guest, which is Beyond AMAZING! The owners do a super job at meeting the basic necessities of the campground and beyond! We had a super fun time and loved every minute of our stay. Thank you for making every moment of our stay the best it can be! Thank you from the Campbell family! ❤️
