Two O'Clock Creek
Overview
Two O'Clock Creek is a serene, rustic getaway located within the Kootenay Plains Provincial Recreation Area. Situated along the David Thompson Highway, this campground offers a traditional outdoor experience far from the crowded resort-style parks found in more commercialized regions. It serves as a tranquil basecamp for those looking to immerse themselves in the raw beauty of the Alberta Rockies. Visitors typically choose this spot for its quiet atmosphere and its proximity to some of the most striking natural landscapes in the Nordegg area.
Location & Surroundings
The park is nestled in the heart of David Thompson Country, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Canadian Rockies. To the east, the vibrant turquoise waters of Abraham Lake provide a stunning backdrop, while the North Saskatchewan River flows nearby. The surrounding landscape consists of montane forests and open grasslands, offering a unique microclimate that is often drier and windier than the parks further west. This location provides a genuine sense of seclusion and a direct connection to the wilderness.
Amenities & Park Features
As a primitive provincial recreation site, the amenities here are designed to support a self-sufficient camping style. Travelers will find well-spaced sites equipped with heavy-duty fire pits and picnic tables. While the park does not offer electricity or sewer hookups, it provides essential facilities such as vault toilets and a hand-pump for water. The sites are mostly gravel and are surrounded by mature trees, offering a degree of natural privacy that is highly valued by seasoned RVers looking to disconnect from the digital world.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activity here. The Siffleur Falls Trail is a major draw, featuring a suspension bridge over the river and breathtaking views of cascading water. For those interested in photography or fishing, the nearby Kootenay Plains offer sprawling vistas and diverse wildlife viewing opportunities. During the winter months, Abraham Lake becomes a destination for viewing frozen methane bubbles, while summer guests enjoy stargazing and hiking near the historic Nordegg townsite.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for the independent traveler who prioritizes nature over luxury. If you enjoy boondocking or have a smaller RV or van setup, you will appreciate the quiet nights and the lack of light pollution. It is perfect for hikers and photographers who want to be first on the trails in the morning. Those seeking a back-to-basics experience will find Two O'Clock Creek to be one of the most rewarding and authentic stops along the David Thompson Highway.

Amazing, small campground in the middle of the mountains. Close to Abraham lake and waterfalls. You can go for trekking even straight from the campground.

Great campsite in a beautiful place. Just spent the last few days here, camping and hiking around the area. Host's were awesome, really nice to know someone was keeping an eye on things while I was out enjoying the mountains. If you want a great campsite to check out the area for a few days, you won't be disappointed.

I just did a day visit and had lunch there. It is a basic Campground with pit toilets and no electricity. It had a manual lever water pump near the picnic table we were at so I assume that is the only water for the campground. It was pretty full and I noted that the sites tended to be somewhat small and not too private. It had a nice feel though and there was a campground host on site, I assume a volunteer host which Alberta Parks has a program for. Because it is so basic, I have to give it a 3 - 3 1/2 star rating which is a neutral rating but at the same time, it is a wonderful experience being here. I liked the feel of it, the surrounding beauty of the area and there was some mountain sheep making themselves at home at the driveway into the site so that was quite a lot of fun. It is in the Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve,, one of the few places in North America of this type and is protected so future generations will be able to enjoy. Maybe it should be rated at 5 stars instead but I will leave my rating at neutral

Great campground in the Kootenay Plains. Camp hosts are phenomenal and friendly. Wood for sale, clean pit toilets and close to alot of hiking. Sites are very well maintained. Bear proof garbage bins and beverage container recycling. We enjoyed a fantastic week here. Much better here than the random camping along the hwy or at Preachers Point.

Fine for a place to stop for the night or if youre looking to exclusively hike the region. Otherwise its not very private and seems like it can get pretty busy. If youre into more secluded camping id look elsewhere. If you dont mind having lots of neighbours it would probably be great!
