Uinta-Wasatch-Cache/Stateline Reservoir
Overview
Nestled in the high-elevation landscape of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Stateline Campground provides a serene escape centered around the picturesque Stateline Reservoir. Located south of Evanston, Wyoming, near the Utah border, this rustic destination offers a true mountain experience at an elevation of approximately 9,400 feet. It is an ideal spot for those looking to disconnect from the digital world and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Uinta Mountains, where the air is crisp and the forest surroundings are pristine.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated near the Wyoming border and is accessible via the stunning Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by dense stands of lodgepole pine and Engelmann spruce, with the reservoir reflecting the rugged ridges above. This high-altitude setting ensures cool summer temperatures and provides a gateway to the High Uintas Wilderness. The area is renowned for its alpine meadows and abundant wildlife, making every drive to the campsite a scenic adventure through the back country.
Amenities & Park Features
As a Forest Service facility, the campground offers a traditional, rustic experience. You will find vault toilets and potable water available during the peak season, though there are no hookups for power, water, or sewer. Most sites feature gravel pads, a fire ring, and a picnic table. RVers should come prepared for dry camping and ensure their batteries are charged, as the focus here is on simplicity and self-sufficiency rather than modern resort amenities.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw, particularly on the water. The reservoir is popular for non-motorized boating, including kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Anglers frequent the area to cast for rainbow and brook trout from the shore or small boats. For hikers, the nearby North Slope Trailhead offers access to an extensive network of trails leading deep into the wilderness. Off-road enthusiasts will also find several forest roads and ATV trails in the surrounding forest areas.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is perfect for off-grid enthusiasts and travelers who prefer a quiet, natural environment over a busy commercial park. It is an excellent choice for adventure seekers who enjoy fishing and hiking, as well as families looking to introduce their children to traditional camping. Due to the lack of hookups and limited cell service, it is best suited for those who appreciate a rugged mountain lifestyle and the peace of the high forest.

Did not stay at this campground but drove through it to check it out. There is a dump station (most of the other campgrounds along this road do not have dump stations).

Camp host Dave , the nicest guy you’d ever meet, all grounds area is well shaded by trees, trust me your family is going to want shade if you go up there in the summer months Lake was low during our time there mid July, but the other two lower lakes produce good fishing.

Went with family and reserved 2 spots near each other. The facilities were clean and close. The campsites were pretty booked but it never felt busy or packed. Loved that the lake was so close. Absolutely gorgeous!! We sat in the rocks and explored as a few of the kids tried to skip rocks.

This is a really nice, tree-filled campground. The vault toilets aren't too bad early in the morning or at night. Water is easily accessible and tastes fine. There are a lot of camping spots and it's very dog friendly. We were in a tent, which was definitely in the minority of visitors, but it was a nice, relaxing time. Hubby and kids enjoyed the short walk to the lake for fishing.

Campground was great, but the host messed up a bunch of reservations, and the water had some sort of white gas inside it, safe to drink but a little sketchy. Resivour was low, but that might have just been a 2021 thing. Had plumbingless bathrooms and was fairly empty.
