Umpqua's Last Resort Wilderness RV Park & Campground

Overview

Umpqua's Last Resort Wilderness RV Park & Campground offers a serene and rugged basecamp for travelers eager to explore the North Umpqua River Valley. This destination strikes a balance between a wilderness retreat and a comfortable mountain stopover. Designed for those who prioritize immediate access to the outdoors, the park provides an authentic Oregon experience. It serves as a primary gateway to the Umpqua National Forest, where the focus remains on the surrounding natural beauty rather than artificial resort luxuries. Guests can expect a quiet atmosphere where the sounds of the forest take center stage.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the heart of Idleyld Park, Oregon, the park is nestled along the North Umpqua River, a designated Wild and Scenic waterway. The geography here is defined by towering Douglas firs, ancient old-growth forests, and dramatic volcanic rock formations. This area is far removed from the noise of major highways, offering visitors a profound sense of scenic solitude. The air is crisp, and the environment remains lush year-round, making it a spectacular location for those looking to immerse themselves in the unique ecosystem of the Cascade Range.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a variety of lodging options tailored to the needs of modern adventurers. The grounds feature several essential amenities to support your stay:

  • Full-hookup RV sites including 30 and 50-amp electrical service
  • Spacious pull-thru and back-in sites designed for easy navigation
  • Rustic glamping yurts and cabins for those traveling without an RV
  • On-site laundry facilities, propane service, and a shop for ice and wood

While Wi-Fi access is available, the service reflects the remote nature of the wilderness. This encourages guests to unplug and enjoy the simplicity of campfire evenings and starry nights.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The park is strategically positioned along the Highway of Waterfalls, making it an ideal hub for photographers and hikers. Popular destinations within a short drive include:

  • The iconic tiered drop of Toketee Falls
  • Natural mineral pools at the Umpqua Hot Springs
  • The massive 272-foot plunge of Watson Falls

Beyond the waterfalls, the region is famous for world-class fly fishing on Steamboat Creek and high-adrenaline white-water rafting. For those willing to drive a bit further, the stunning caldera of Crater Lake National Park is accessible for a memorable day trip.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is the perfect fit for adventure seekers and nature lovers who want to be as close to the trailheads as possible. It is ideal for Rvers who enjoy a rustic, forest-heavy environment and prefer a peaceful home base over a crowded urban park. Whether you are a fly-fishing enthusiast looking for the perfect river bend or a family seeking a tranquil mountain escape, Umpqua's Last Resort provides the necessary comforts without compromising the integrity of the wilderness experience.

Awesome experience. We stayed in a cabin that slept 6, part of a much larger group. The cabin was well equipped and really nice, beds comfortable. We all toured each others places out of curiosity and they are all very cute - but the heated canvas tents some the show, so romantic and cool. Will definitely be back.

We stayed in a cozy cabin with a king bed plus a ladder to a loft with a second bed - a good set up for us. The cabin was a short walk from the shared bathrooms - showers were very hot with good water flow and nice “rain” heads. We visited in winter, so the bathroom building was a little cold, but there is a timed heater inside that warmed up the room very quickly. The setting in the upper North Umpqua valley was beautiful, but the highlight of our stay was the very friendly and helpful staff. They really went above and beyond. Would love to stay here again!

Second time staying here and we had a great experience. We booked the tiny home for two nights, and the staff was very helpful with booking over the phone. We really love the location, the staff, and the details of the unit. Very clean, well designed, overall very charming unit. We stayed in the tiny home. We made a fire outside in the evening, and cooked in the kitchen for every meal. Make sure you bring enough clothes if you're coming in the winter, it does get a bit cold even inside the unit as the heat tends to rise to the top. Couldn't give a 5 star across the board because there was a loud rumbling noise through the night because the mini split is attached to the side of the tiny home, which kept us awake, and the floors were a little cold, but this could be fixed by adding some rugs in the unit. Overall would 100% recommend this place for a winter get away.

Everyone was extremely friendly here. Unfortunately there aren't any close by grocery stores nearby and there's a small convenience store 2 mins walk next-door. The prices isn't cheap for what you get, but you're also nowhere close the city. You wouldn't have a bathroom in your stay, and you need to walk into the middle of the area for that. They offer shuttles for a lot of outdoor activities close-by. Its very camp vibes and I would recommend it if you want to be in & out of Crater Lake going back into the Interstate-5. The Rooms are cozy, and clean. For cooking, you'll be provided a kettle, microwave, and some plastic utensils. You can rent a huge selections of DVDS from the check-in office for the night, otherwise, you'll need to pay for your own Wi-Fi.

We had a great time staying in a King Cabin with our two kids. They have been asking to go back! The Cabin was clean and everyone at the resort was super friendly and helpful. The location is great- lots of hiking and beautiful scenery nearby!
