I think this state park is now at one of the top of my favorite MN state parks that we have visited. Campsite was very quiet and had lots of space. Be prepared to see TONS (like hundreds) of frogs jumping everywhere. It was so awesome. Even on the walking trails there are frogs all over. Our absolute favorite part was swimming and paddleboarding in the MN and Yellow Medicine River in the north picnic area. It was absolutely amazing and the water was extremely calm. On a paddleboard, you can easily paddle both up and down stream. For sure an amazing MN state park! Don't forget that the road is also closed between the campground and park office (which is closed). They have great instructions on how to go around if needed.

After visiting, Upper Sioux Agency is our new favorite camping area! We enjoyed the hiking, scenic views, quiet and spacious campground, and the kids loved the nature area. Park ranger was very knowledgeable and accommodating.

Terrific history and hiking trails here. There's quite a bit of grade and variety. The confluence of the Yellow Medicine with the Minnesota is a tremendous picnic spot, and fish were literally jumping in midsummer.

Located in the Minnesota River Valley, this state park seemingly offers little on paper, but delivers in person. On the smaller side, this park still manages to pack in a decent picnic area, walking tour of the former Agency compound and a smaller campground nestled in the valley. The campground features 3 tipis available to reserve and stay in. A treat not found in other state parks. Quiet, quaint and not far off the beaten path. A good option where relaxation or house activities is desired and not water-based or extensive hiking.
