Village historique de Val-Jalbert is one of the most fascinating and well-preserved historical sites in Quebec. Visiting feels like stepping back in time to an authentic 1920s village, surrounded by beautiful nature and the impressive Ouiatchouan Falls. The mix of history, culture, and scenery makes it an unforgettable experience. The site is very well organized, with restored houses, exhibitions, and multimedia presentations that bring the village’s story to life. You can explore freely, take the cable car up to the waterfall lookout, and enjoy stunning panoramic views of the valley and Lac Saint-Jean. The staff and guides are knowledgeable and friendly, and they do a great job of sharing the fascinating history of the place. There are also restaurants, picnic areas, and charming accommodations in the old-style buildings, making it easy to spend a full day (or even stay overnight) without rushing. It’s a great experience for families, couples, and history lovers alike. The combination of natural beauty, well-preserved heritage, and peaceful atmosphere makes Val-Jalbert a must-see destination in the Lac Saint-Jean region

We slept inside the village and it was brilliant! 4 of us in total, seperate units and wow, its was gorgeous. Being able to walk around before opening and after closing was pure magic! The waterfall is so striking and the food delivers! We will be back!

What a gem of a place! Well worth the drive to stay in the village AND eat at the restaurant located besides the falls. The accommodation is charming and clean. The short 5 minute walk to the restaurant is such a treat. Honestly, the food selection, presentation and garage is more than 5 stars. A shout out to the exceptional service with William. Merci & thank you!

Well I didn't have a very good experience here today. Got here at 10:00 a.m. it was already almost 40°. Cost $52 for one adult to get in. Definitely not worth the price. $30 maybe. The only thing really worth seeing for me was the waterfall and I've seen many I live close to Niagara falls. But I went to use the bathrooms inside the building before I walked out every toilet was almost overflowing with crap and toilet paper. None of them were flushing. So disgusting. They have a big bottle of soap sitting on the counter so I put a bunch of soap on my hands to wash my hands and there was no water coming out of the taps either. So I had to go into the lobby and get her to get me a cloth to wipe my hands with and I made her remove the bottle of soap out of the bathroom so other people don't do the same thing. Don't waste your time going here.

It's really worth to go. I'm single traveler and still enjoyed this place. Getting the history is very interesting. Explanations are in English as well. You can also hike up to the top of the waterfall or take the cable car.

We stopped by here while bike touring. It's right off the Veloroute Bleuets. The campsite is beautiful, but the village itself was a little boring. You can walk through the restored buildings and watch some videos about the village, but nothing really else to do. The waterfall and hydroelectric dam is cool but I don't think it is really worth the price for what it was. If you don't speak French, it may be hard to get around. The signs are mostly bilingual but the staff and the videos are in French only.

This village is a must see when in the Lac Saint-Jean area. A very quaint town that was rich in resource back in the day. Everything is pretty much untouched with plenty to see and experience. The waterfall at the far end is beautiful and actually powers a mini hydro station. Very well kept property and friendly people within. I highly recommend a visit here as it shows how simply people lived over a hundred years ago. If you see a nun, ask her why people stayed there and what did they do to pass time, then step back.

Visited this place with my elderly parents since it was one of the very few things we can do in the area (low mobility). Didn't have big expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a cute little set up, but it's the surprising waterfall view that made it special. There were two viewpoints, one easily accessible by my elderly parents and the other about 700 steps (up and down stairs) which I did with my sister and boyfriend. This second viewpoint was worth it.

This is the order we did, sharing it here: hopped on the trolley car, and it would give you a guided tour around the village, and take you to the final destination, where the spectacle is (a wonderful animated historical film about the village), as well as the stop of the cable car, from which you would see the amazing views of Lac St Jean and local waterfalls. Then we grabbed a bite at the bistro just in the same building as the spectacle, and headed out to see the village. We walked on the La Dompe, which is a nice recycle garden path, then visited the old houses, general store, post office, canyon trail and look out, church, and then school. Had a super nice 5 hours here!
