Valley Of the Rogue

Overview

Valley of the Rogue State Park offers a unique blend of convenience and natural beauty along the iconic Rogue River. Situated between the cities of Medford and Grants Pass, this park serves as a lush sanctuary for travelers traversing the Interstate 5 corridor. Unlike more secluded wilderness camps, it provides a well-maintained, park-like setting with mature trees and direct river access, making it a reliable choice for those seeking comfort and scenery in Southern Oregon.

Location & Surroundings

The park is perfectly positioned in Gold Hill, OR, nestled in the heart of the scenic Rogue Valley. While its proximity to the highway makes it an easy stopover, the dense canopy of trees and the rushing river nearby create a refreshing atmosphere. The landscape is defined by its proximity to the Rogue River, which flows directly alongside the campground, offering picturesque views and a steady soundtrack of water for those staying in riverside loops.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers will find a range of accommodations, including full-hookup sites in loops A and B, which are ideal for larger rigs. The park features clean restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station. For those traveling with pets, there is a dedicated fenced-off dog exercise area. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the boat ramp for easy river access or explore the paved Rogue River Greenway trail that meanders through the park grounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure is never far away, with the Rogue River offering world-class fishing and white-water rafting opportunities right from the park's edge. A short drive leads to the historic town of Jacksonville or the vibrant shops and theaters of Ashland. For a longer day trip, guests can visit Crater Lake National Park or explore the mysterious Oregon Caves. Local wineries and the famous Hellgate Jetboat Excursions in nearby Grants Pass are also major draws for visitors.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for families and long-distance travelers who prioritize ease of access without sacrificing natural beauty. It is particularly well-suited for big-rig owners who need spacious, level sites and full utilities. Whether you are using it as a convenient basecamp to explore Southern Oregon’s outdoor wonders or simply need a restful overnight stop during a West Coast road trip, the park offers a welcoming and accessible environment.

Loved our stay here. Beautiful park. Can't beat the price. Our dogs really enjoyed their walks along the river. The I-5 can be a bit noisy, but we were close to the river so not a problem. The staff here is super layed back and friendly. Definitely will be back!

We reserved a Yurt for one night and it was perfect. There is enough beds to comfortably sleep 5 people (two fulls and a twin) and there would be enough room on the floor to bring your own sleeping equipment. There was a light and a space heater that made it very comfortable. The only reason I made this review 4 stars is because of the camp’s proximity to the highway, that resulted in pretty loud highway noises.

We loved our week at Valley of the Rogue State Park! Site E8 was perfect—level, spacious, and right along the river. The paved trail that runs directly from the campground into the town of Rogue River was such a highlight—we explored it on e-bikes and loved how charming the town was with its restaurants and shops. Showers were spotless, staff were friendly, and the campground felt well cared for. Between hammock time, smoking meat, salads, and playing with the dogs, this stay was exactly what we needed. We’d happily come back again!

The most popular Oregon state park by the number of visitors. A lot of visitors seem to be short term stays during the week since it is right off the freeway with easy on and off and close to the Oregon/California border. This park is located right on the Rogue River between Grants Pass and Medford. The sites are spaced apart and offer sun and shade. They're multiple hiking and biking trails as well. This location could also be used as a home base for a trip to Crater Lake and multiple wineries and tasting rooms as well as canoeing or kayaking the Rogue. I would also make a trip for a jet boat ride on Rogue. Numerous small towns around to discover like Jacksonville.

Very nice campground, big spaces, clean bathrooms and showers (showers are free for campers). Great walking and bicycling trails that go into the small towns of Rogue River and Gold Hill. Couple negatives, our site was very dry and buggy and all the picnic tables in the park need to be replaced, they are super old and brittle and give splinters like crazy. Use at your own risk.
