Van Buren
Overview
Van Buren State Park offers a peaceful, wooded escape in the heart of Northwest Ohio’s agricultural landscape. Originally a farmstead, this park has been transformed into a quiet sanctuary centered around the small but scenic Van Buren Lake. It provides a classic state park experience where the focus is on reconnecting with nature and enjoying a slower pace of life. Travelers will find a mix of sun and shade throughout the campground, creating an inviting atmosphere for a relaxing weekend retreat.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just north of Findlay, the park is conveniently located near Interstate 75, making it an easy stop for those traveling through Ohio. Despite its proximity to the highway, the park feels worlds away, surrounded by lush woodlands and calm waters. The landscape features a variety of hardwood forests that offer vibrant colors during the autumn months. The surrounding area is primarily rural, providing a dark sky and quiet evenings for stargazing around a campfire.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground caters to RVers with electric hookups available at many sites, while maintaining a rustic feel. Each site includes a picnic table and a fire ring for traditional outdoor living. One of the standout features of this park is the fenced-in dog park, which offers plenty of space for four-legged travelers to run off-leash. While the facilities are modest, they include essential access to water and a dump station. Recreational features like the nine-hole disc golf course provide low-key entertainment for the whole family.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore miles of multi-use trails perfect for hiking and mountain biking, while dedicated bridle trails accommodate horseback riders. Van Buren Lake is a focal point for non-motorized boating, offering a glass-like surface for kayaking and canoeing. Anglers frequently visit the shoreline to fish for bluegill and channel catfish. For those needing a taste of the city, the nearby town of Findlay offers diverse dining options, local boutiques, and the University of Findlay campus.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who prefer peace and privacy over the high-energy environment of a commercial RV resort. It is a fantastic choice for pet owners who want to utilize the expansive dog park and shaded walking paths. If you enjoy a simple, nature-focused stay with easy access to regional transit routes, this state park serves as an excellent home base. It is best suited for those looking to unplug and enjoy a traditional camping experience under the Ohio canopy.

Had a wonderful time walking and doing yoga on the wildflower trail. Then drove around to the boat launch area and walked the Haiku trail which was wonderful! 🤩🥰🙌

Mostly larger spaces and quiet. Campground now has Findlay city water at each site. Equestrian sites are large enough to have several horses with you

When you arrive stay on 218 until you see Family Camp and Horse Camp. Follow that sign and you will arrive at this beautiful RV Park. Very well maintained... as you travel in you will see the "Adventures Bound" park on the right-- appears to be a full-time Adventure full of Sheds and RV permanent decks and Christmas lights. Arriving at the Vanburen campground was clean, large and beautiful.

Despite the water being at a low level and a major restoration project going on, this state park is bonkers great. The most fun part of the day was seeing a beaver while on the red trail at their massive lodge. The trails that circulate the lake are nice and cool thanks to trees providing shade. This park is beautiful, I wasn’t expecting it to be so good.
