Versailles

Overview

Versailles State Park stands as Indiana's second-largest state park, offering a vast landscape rich with history and ecological diversity. Originally developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the park has evolved into a premier destination for those seeking serene natural beauty. RV travelers are greeted by a sprawling canopy of hardwoods that provides a sense of seclusion and a deep connection to the Hoosier countryside during their stay.

Location & Surroundings

Located just outside the town of Versailles in Ripley County, the park is characterized by the rugged topography of southeastern Indiana. The entrance is marked by the scenic Busching Covered Bridge, a local landmark that sets a nostalgic tone for your arrival. The area is defined by the winding Laughery Creek and high limestone bluffs, creating a dramatic and picturesque backdrop for a relaxing weekend or an extended camping trip.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV-friendly campgrounds offer over 200 electric sites nestled within the deep woods, ensuring a comfortable stay with essential utilities. Guests have access to clean modern restrooms and hot showers, along with a convenient dump station for self-contained rigs. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, encouraging classic campfire evenings under a dense, star-filled sky away from urban light pollution.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Activity options are abundant, centered around the 230-acre lake where visitors can rent rowboats or launch their own kayaks for a day on the water. The park is highly regarded for having some of the best mountain bike trails in the state, featuring miles of winding paths through the lush forest. Additionally, the seasonal aquatic center with its waterslides provides a popular cooling-off spot for families during the warm Indiana summer months.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an excellent fit for active outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize trail access and water activities over high-end resort features. It is particularly well-suited for families looking for an educational nature experience and a break from digital distractions. Whether you are a birdwatcher, a mountain biker, or an RVer seeking a quiet forest retreat, this park offers a classic and authentic Indiana camping experience.

My mother and father started camping here when they were kids. It is a great reset just outside Cincinnati. I can't say enough great things about the staff and the cleanliness of the campground. Plus on a clear night you can't pass up the view.

I visited to do the Mammoth March. It was a wonderful shaded hike. We crossed the creek several times & was only in the shade for 5-10 min the whole 8+hrs. There were SEVERAL muddy places but with 1200 participating I'm sure that's why.

One of the cleanest campgrounds I've been to. Now withh that being said it definitely could use water at sites and some full hookups. The bathroom and shower houses definitely could use an upgrade. But overall is a great state park with fishing , boating, hiking and a huge pool with slides .they just need water hookups so you can stay longer then 3 to 4 days .

Camped here at site #112 for just one night on our way back home. Seems like a nice park. Very clean and well kept, though dated. We would definitely stop here again on another camping road trip.

Love this park, been going here for years. Miss the old wooden playground, but the new equipment is nice. Lots of trails, easy to moderate. The mountain bike trail is my favourite to walk, takes you up on the ridge and down into the valley along Laughrey creek. Swimming pool is nice. You can rent canoes to go out on the lake, and paddle boats. Camp store is a tad expensive. But the nature center is fun. Lots of shelters that can be reserved for family outings. Horse trails,BYOH. Campground is big, but crowded.
