Victoria Springs SRA

Overview

Victoria Springs SRA holds a unique place in Nebraska's history as the state's third oldest recreation area. Nestled in the heart of the Sandhills, this park offers a lush, oasis-like atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding prairie. It is centered around a picturesque five-acre lake fed by natural mineral springs, providing a peaceful retreat for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the quiet beauty of rural Nebraska in a historic setting.

Location & Surroundings

Located near Anselmo in Custer County, the park is situated within the Nebraska Sandhills, one of the most distinct geographic regions in the country. The drive to the park takes travelers through rolling hills and expansive ranch lands, creating a sense of serene isolation that many RVers crave. The Victoria Creek flows through the area, adding to the lush greenery and supporting the diverse birdlife that calls this tranquil, tree-filled landscape home.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features a well-maintained campground that accommodates various RV sizes. Travelers will find electric hookup sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp service, along with primitive camping options for those seeking a more traditional experience. Key amenities include a playground, picnic shelters, and vault toilets, with seasonal showers available for guests. One of the standout features is the natural mineral springs where visitors can still see the source of the water that made this location famous over a century ago.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy fishing for bass and bluegill in the spring-fed lake or exploring the water via pedal boats available for rent during the summer months. History buffs should visit the two original log cabins on-site, which date back to the late 1800s and offer a glimpse into Nebraska's pioneer past. For those willing to venture further, the nearby Middle Loup River offers opportunities for river trips, while the town of Broken Bow provides local services and dining.

Who This Park Is Best For

Victoria Springs SRA is ideal for RVers who prefer a quiet, rustic experience over the fast-paced atmosphere of a high-traffic resort. It is a perfect fit for families looking for a safe, low-key environment where children can fish and play in nature. Nature photographers and birdwatchers will also find the park’s unique ecosystem incredibly rewarding. If you value historical significance and a slower pace of life, this hidden gem in the Sandhills is a must-visit destination.

Had a great stay, thanks to the wonderful Camp Host Becky. She helped us find the perfect site to accommodate us. Site 4 had shade all day, but we still had great Starlink service.

This is by far the quietest campground we have ever gone to. Not sure who is responsible for the upkeep of the grounds or who does the facility cleaning but they deserve and pay raise or some kind of award!! These or the cleanest public restrooms I have ever been in !!! If you want to train all your State Recreation area employees on how to properly take care of our tax dollars and resources, then they need sent here to be trained!!! The history, the old 1800’s cabin and the walking paths are beautiful. Small but Mighty A++ Gold medal 🥇 to the crew that runs this!

Such a lovely park in Central Nebraska. We stayed in Cabin 1. It was clean, comfortable, and had an incredible lake view. The cottonwoods were shedding their seeds, creating a dreamy snow-like effect. Birds and other wildlife abound. Highly recommend a visit! Our 1 drawback was that the cabin smelled pretty heavily of cleaning product when we first arrived. I think this could be solved by just airing the cabins out a bit after cleaning.

We were passing through the area when this park popped up on our GPS—what a great find! A perfect spot to camp and relax, and we’re so glad we stopped. Well cared for park!

There is Nearly Zero cell phone reception in/near this park. It's a good overnight stop. This is a pretty park with plenty of shade, a small fishing lake, a ball field, 2 horseshoe pits with multiple picnic tables, restrooms, and showers, with another set of restrooms only at the back behind the ball field. The sites are large and easy to back into. 4 rv sites have shared water, 2 spigots for 4 sites, for filling tanks, see my pics. 2 handicap sites with electric and concrete pads, many other sites have electric, there are a few primitive sites at the back. No sites have sewer connections. The showers have a timer valve that automatically turns water off after a few minutes. The water takes about 2 full cycles of the valve to get warm water. The park is adjacent to a highway, but noise is minimal.
