Overview
Midway Park is a premier U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility offering a serene escape on the eastern shores of Waco Lake. It serves as an essential gateway for travelers exploring Central Texas, blending the quiet atmosphere of a lakeside retreat with immediate access to the city’s most popular cultural landmarks.
Location & Surroundings
Ideally situated on the south side of the reservoir, the park sits along the South Bosque River arm of the lake. The local landscape is characterized by wide-open grassy areas and mature shade trees that offer refreshing relief from the Texas sun. Its strategic proximity to Highway 6 makes it exceptionally accessible for those driving large motorhomes, yet the well-spaced campsites are positioned to maintain a peaceful waterfront environment that feels secluded from the city.
Amenities & Park Features
This park stands out among federal campgrounds for offering full hookup sites, including water, sewer, and electric service. Boaters will appreciate the dual-lane boat ramp that provides quick access to the lake for fishing and recreation. Key park features include:

- Picnic tables and fire rings at every site
- A secure, gated entry for peace of mind
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water-based recreation is the primary draw, with excellent opportunities for bass fishing and kayaking right from the park boundaries. For a change of pace, the urban highlights of Waco are just minutes away, including the iconic Magnolia Market at the Silos and the Dr Pepper Museum. Families often enjoy the Cameron Park Zoo or exploring the extensive trail systems nearby that overlook the Brazos River, making it easy to balance nature and sightseeing.

It is an excellent choice for families seeking a budget-friendly lakeside vacation and couples looking for a quiet home base. Nice big, level sites, in the full hookup section. Close to Waco and all it attractions. My only complaint is check in isn't until 3 PM but that wasn't a problem I checked the website and none has reserved our site so I figured it was safe to show up early and it was. When we got there there were sign on the guardhouse window, take the time to read them, but in short it said proceed to your site. The camp host came by with the map and car tag and answered my questions and gave the lay of the land IRT the gate closure from 10PM to 6AM and how to get out and where to park if we got there after 10PM. I'm a disabled vet so I get 1/2 camping fees so I only paid $18 per night. There was some road noise but it wasn't too bad We camped at Midway Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed 2 nights, Nov 2025, in Site 24. Some sites have full hook-ups. I’m pretty sure 24 is the only one near the lake; the others are at the entrance to the park. It was a great location even if it wasn’t the closest site to the lake. Pleasant, quiet, easy in & out of park & site. Friendly & helpful host.

Beautiful trees. Very large Old Oaks. Only downside is the freeway is right next to it.

As always, the Corps of Engineers develops and manages very nice campgrounds. Midway Park offers lengthy, roomy sites...both back in and pull through. Electric/water as well as electric/water/sewer. Tent sites, too. Right on Lake Waco for your boating and fishing pleasure.

We were there 2 nights in pull-thru site #29. The site was long enough for our 35' Motorhome and toad. It also had a pavilion with picnic table and a grill. It's near the highway so we could hear the highway at night. The site is located between 2 trees that has low hanging large limbs. I was very nervous about spending the night there as the limb was right above our bedroom area and there were storms forecasted to come through the area with winds. Most of the other pull-thru sites there that did not have trees hanging overhead were occupied so we had to remain there. Thankfully nothing bad happened that night and the next day I asked to be moved to another site and they moved us to site #28 which eased my concerns. The campground has good access to Hwy 6. It does have a boat ramp. Be aware that they close the gates at 10 pm. You can leave after 10pm but you can't re-enter the campground until the gate reopens at 6am. It was a nice campground and convenient to Waco but they really need to trim those low hanging limbs above those 2 sites.
