Walnut Creek
Overview
Walnut Creek Park offers a serene lakeside escape on the north side of Keystone Lake in Oklahoma. As a US Army Corps of Engineers facility, it provides a well-maintained natural environment for RVers seeking a mix of woodland shade and waterfront access. The park is characterized by its rolling terrain and mature oak trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere away from the highway noise typically found at private commercial parks. It serves as a gateway to the diverse ecosystems of the Cross Timbers region.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated near the small community of Prue, Oklahoma, offering a secluded feel while remaining accessible from major regional routes. It sits on a peninsula extending into Keystone Lake, providing miles of shoreline for exploration and scenic views. The surrounding landscape features a mix of prairie grasslands and dense timber. Visitors enjoy wide vistas of the water and frequent sightings of local wildlife, including white-tailed deer and various migratory bird species that frequent the shoreline.
Amenities & Park Features
This campground is equipped with electric and water hookups at many sites, accommodating various sizes of RVs. Guests have access to essential facilities including a dump station, hot showers, and flush toilets. Water enthusiasts will appreciate the multi-lane boat ramp and designated swimming beach, which are central to the summer experience. For those who prefer land-based recreation, the park includes playgrounds and the Sand Plum Trail, a popular path for both hiking and equestrian use within the park boundaries.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is Keystone Lake, where boating and fishing for striped bass, crappie, and catfish are popular daily activities. For a change of pace, the city of Tulsa is only about thirty miles away, offering cultural sites like the Philbrook Museum of Art and the Gathering Place. Nature lovers should also consider exploring the nearby Ancient Forest of Sand Springs, which protects a unique ecosystem of trees that are hundreds of years old, providing a quiet contrast to the lake activities.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and families who enjoy water-based recreation without the frills of a luxury resort. It is a perfect fit for those who prefer the quiet, natural setting of government-run parks over crowded private campgrounds. Whether you are an avid fisherman looking for easy lake access or a cross-country traveler seeking a scenic and affordable stopover in the Sooner State, Walnut Creek provides a relaxed environment for a classic camping experience.

Cute little campground. Barbara and her husband helped us blow up our air mattress bc our pump had broke. We felt same it’s clean. They have hot showers and flushable toilets. We like it so much we extended our stay but then had to cut it short due to an emergency
