The drive in is about 20-30 minutes of loose bumpy gravel road, but our 99 camry made the drive just fine. The scenic drive makes up for it. We were the only campers for two nights in a row. Steep trail to a beautiful overlook, especially for the sunset. Deer and coyotes in the area so be cautious with pets - deer remnants were in the site across from us. Vault toilets and water. Self-pay. Beautifully clear skies perfect for star-gazing, we saw several large shooting stars. We will definitely be coming back. - Carlee, Will, Chuey, and Cowboy.

Only downside was the 30-40 minute drive on dirt road from the freeway; although it was a gorgeous drive, it was slow in our 4wd sedan. We were the only ones at the campsite on a Tuesday night in august. Well-maintained, quiet, gorgeous stars after dark. Potable water and latrine toilet available, fee was $10. Great stop on our road trip!

Peaceful. No electricity. Hand pump water well. Vaulted toilet. Inside a small valley but no real protection or shade. Beautiful long view looking south. $10 per night 2021 self serve. Roads are maintained but narrow and winding so drive slow and careful. Each site has table and fire pit. Burn ban may be in effect. Haul out your own garbage. Horses are welcome here. Possible rattle snakes. Immediate access to Maah Daah Hey trail. If you don't know what the Maah Daah Hey is be sure to look it up!! Heading North on the trail a short distance and steep climb there is a bench and amazing view in all directions. Head North a little farther and you'll find yourself surrounded by dozens of petrified tree stumps.

Remote first come first serve campground. $10 per night with water and decent pit toilet. Awesome hiking, running, and biking just a few feet away on the Maah Daah Hey Trail.

The best part... it's not the trail or the campground, it's the route via. So serene and beautiful.
