It is beautiful at Water Canyon. Quiet and a lovely place to walk.

I've camped here 2X, in three years. Semi developed campsites are a generous distance apart! Depending on site you choose, some are more private than others. It can be bit of a walk, to vaulted (clean) toilet &/or dumpsters. Sites have their own picnic table, bbg or a fire pit - you could easily cook on. Few larger sites have shade ramadas that double nicely as rain cover. Free camping (for three nights) & patrolled regularly by a very nice, knowledgeable park ranger & local volunteers! Mostly quiet, once sun goes down. I heard coyotes fairly close; keep watchful eye on your small dogs, if traveling with them. Being tucked away a distance from the interstate, makes it kind of a local secret. I heard about Water Canyon, from a television travel program. Hiking & mtn biking trails to explore here. Mormon crickets are numerous, late April & on. They're inoffensive; scurry away readily, as you walk. Hope to return & hike to the yurt one day. If lucky, spend night there. Winnemucca is such a historic, special & overall welcoming place! The canyon further embodies that. Glad to see Water Canyon being cared for (& watched over,) by so many. ❤️

We left Utah on our way back to California having no idea where or if we were going to stop. Randomly we decided on Water Canyon. I could not have been happier!! We got a great spot across from the bathroom, which you could not smell. We found everything clean. Had a great hike on the yurt trail. Unfortunately we stayed less than 24 hours but we'll be going back. If you're hungry for breakfast or lunch a must stop at The Griddle is for you!! Thanks to BLM we have areas like this available for us and our children to enjoy!!!

I just tent camped here with my dog en route from Montana to California. It was an awesome experience!! well shaded campsites that are also well-separated and private. Lovely creek running through even in August. Free and wonderful! Clean restrooms (saw them being cleaned in the am even!) and nice hiking trail here; easily reached from hwy 80. Highly recommended. Saw the sheriff on the way out, which is fine by me, I was actually kind of glad they patrol up there cuz it could easily turn into a loud party scene. Bring your own water.

Stayed here as a part of a job trip and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the campground. People who visit take real care of the area. It is first come first serve but some people are welcoming and don't mind you camping in the same pullout. The stream provides a very calming atmosphere and the sunset here was very beautiful. The restrooms are also very well maintained. I would highly recommend stopping by!
