Waterton Lakes/Townsite
Overview
Waterton Lakes Townsite Campground offers a unique blend of wilderness access and town-side convenience within the heart of Waterton Lakes National Park. As the primary hub for RVers in this UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park provides a range of camping options from full-service hookups to unserviced sites. The atmosphere is open and social, characterized by dramatic mountain backdrops and the refreshing, constant breezes that the region is known for. It provides an ideal base for those who want to experience the rugged beauty of the Canadian Rockies without sacrificing access to modern services.
Location & Surroundings
Situated at the southern end of the townsite, this park is nestled between the towering peaks of the Rockies and the shimmering waters of Upper Waterton Lake. The location is incredibly walkable, allowing guests to leave their vehicles behind while exploring local boutiques and eateries. You are mere steps from the Emerald Bay shoreline and the iconic Prince of Wales Hotel, offering some of the most photographed vistas in Alberta. The surrounding landscape is a vibrant mix of lakeside trails and rocky outcrops that define the unique ecosystem of this international peace park.
Amenities & Park Features
The facility is well-equipped to handle various rig sizes, offering electric, water, and sewer connections at many sites to ensure a comfortable stay. For those seeking a more rustic experience, there are unserviced areas and walk-in tent sites available. Essential comforts include clean washrooms with hot showers, laundry facilities, and sheltered kitchen areas for communal cooking. The park layout is designed to maximize views while providing easy access to the town’s infrastructure, including a dump station and fresh water fill-up points for transit travelers.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is just outside your doorstep. You can take a short stroll to witness the power of Cameron Falls or embark on a boat cruise across the international border into Glacier National Park, Montana. Hikers will appreciate the proximity to world-class trails like the Crypt Lake hike or the shorter trek up the Bear’s Hump for a panoramic view of the valley. For a more relaxed afternoon, the local marina offers rentals to enjoy the crystal-clear glacial waters, while the town’s multi-use path is perfect for cycling.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for active travelers who want to be in the center of the action. It is a perfect match for social RVers who enjoy walking to dinner or morning coffee shops rather than staying in secluded isolation. Families will appreciate the safe, accessible environment and the proximity to the town’s playground and splash park. If you value stunning alpine scenery and convenience over deep-woods solitude, this is your premier destination for exploring the wonders of Waterton Park.

This place is truly wonderful! Not only does it offer a nice ambiance and clean washroom with a shower, but the stunning natural surroundings are truly awe-inspiring. For a more enjoyable swimming experience in warmer waters, consider visiting at the end of summer.
