Wekiwa Springs
Overview
Wekiwa Springs State Park offers a serene escape into the heart of Florida’s natural landscape. Located just a short drive from the bustling streets of Orlando, this 7,000-acre park is anchored by its crystalline natural spring, which maintains a constant temperature year-round. It serves as a vital gateway to the Wekiva River, providing a lush, subtropical environment where visitors can reconnect with the outdoors in a setting that feels worlds away from the nearby city sprawl.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Apopka, Florida, the park represents a stunning example of pristine sandhill habitats and riverine hardwood forests. While it sits on the edge of a major metropolitan area, the dense canopy and sprawling trail systems create an atmosphere of total isolation. The surrounding area provides easy access to local supplies in Apopka, while the park remains a quiet sanctuary for native wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and gopher tortoises.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features sixty wooded sites that cater to various camping styles. Most sites offer 30 and 50-amp electrical service along with water hookups. Key features of the camping area include:
- Centrally located bathhouse facilities with hot showers and restrooms.
- An accessible on-site dump station for convenient RV waste management.
- Spacious fire rings and picnic tables provided at every campsite.
While the park accommodates many modern rigs, the dense tree cover and gravel pads provide a more rustic, private feel compared to standard paved RV resorts.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is the main spring head, which is perfect for swimming and snorkeling in clear, 72-degree water. Adventurous travelers can rent canoes or kayaks to explore the Wekiva River and Rock Springs Run directly from the park’s launch. For those who prefer land-based activities, the park boasts over 13 miles of hiking trails that wind through diverse ecosystems. The Sand Lake area is also a popular spot for birdwatching and enjoying the peaceful Florida flora.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for nature enthusiasts and families who prioritize outdoor recreation and natural beauty over luxury resort amenities. Because the sites vary in size and layout, it is a great fit for small to medium-sized rigs, though some specific sites can accommodate RV units up to 50 feet. It is the perfect choice for travelers wanting to experience an authentic Florida wilderness stay while remaining close to Orlando’s world-famous attractions.

Great place for a swim. Remember to bring goggles or a snorkel. Also great opportunity to canoe or kayak up the river. Best to get there early if you want to see Alligators. Otherwise plenty or turtles and bird life. I would recommend bringing your own food and water.

I visited Wekiwa Springs State Park recently, and it was a really refreshing experience. The springs are clear and beautiful, and the surrounding trails make it a great spot for a walk or a short hike. I spent some time relaxing by the water, and it felt peaceful and quiet away from the city. The park is well-kept, and the staff were friendly when I had questions. I’d definitely go back for another visit.

Nice State park. We did a Canoe trip. Within in a few minutes we saw our first manatees. A little further down the springs were turtles and a fairly large gator. There’s a nice boardwalk hike as well. Worth Checking out if near by.

A friend and I went to Kings Landing to go Kayaking, and oh my gosh that place was amazing. The people there were so nice and helpful. The water was so clear and cool, the trees came over the water and so beautiful. Would go again.

Totally worth the visit! You must book in advance. It was easy to create an account and book it online. We paid $6 for one car with 2 people. The place is beautiful, clear crystal fresh water. We spent the time at the natural pool and then went kayaking for about an hour. The minimum option for kayaking is 2 hours $50 which is a decent price. It was a nice experience to enjoy the wild life and the silence while going down the river. They have a cafe, a store, and 2 restrooms areas. There are also a few hiking trails and camping options.
