Wes Cooksey Park
Overview
Wes Cooksey Park offers a peaceful retreat along the scenic banks of the Nueces River in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. As a primary recreational hub for Real County, this park provides a classic outdoor experience where the focus remains on the stunning natural scenery. Travelers visit this destination to enjoy the crystal-clear, spring-fed waters and the quiet, star-filled nights that define this beautiful region of Southwest Texas.
Location & Surroundings
Located just south of the charming town of Camp Wood, TX, the park is defined by its direct proximity to the water's edge. The surrounding landscape features rugged limestone bluffs and ancient cypress trees that are iconic to the Nueces Canyon. Visitors will find themselves completely immersed in a rural, riverside setting that feels secluded, yet it remains a convenient base for exploring the winding roads and small-town charm of Real County.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features designated RV sites equipped with water and electric hookups, accommodating a variety of rig sizes. Guests have access to essential facilities, including climate-controlled restrooms, showers, and a convenient on-site dump station for self-contained units. For recreation, the park provides a paved boat ramp for easy river access, a playground for children, and multiple shaded picnic areas. The fishing pier is a popular spot for those looking to catch bass or sunfish in the clear river waters.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water-based activities are the primary draw, with the Nueces River being perfect for swimming and kayaking throughout the warmer months. Beyond the park, the area is a gateway to the famous Three Sisters, a trio of scenic ranch roads highly favored by motorcyclists and driving enthusiasts for their hairpin turns and vistas. The nearby town of Camp Wood offers local dining and supplies, while the surrounding hills provide ample opportunities for birdwatching and spotting local wildlife.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for budget-conscious families and solo travelers who prioritize natural beauty over luxury resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for kayak enthusiasts and anglers looking for direct river access without the crowds of larger state parks. If you enjoy a rustic, community-oriented atmosphere where the primary entertainment is the great outdoors, Wes Cooksey Park fits your travel style perfectly.

Went there one time and it was decent. Tried to come in about an hour ago and the guy in the office denied me and my fiancé service. He said “no one likes it here everyone likes it at the bottom” don’t know why he is turning away business. Then made a rude remark about my fiancés tint on his truck. I hope something can be done about this. If this wasn’t the owner then he needs to be fired. If it was the owner, learn how to talk to costumers since we pay your bills!

Great place to canoe, tube, star gaze & truly relax. We love the majestic old trees!! Only downside is the lack of internet connection/cell service, which made it challenging for my need to still be working. (If you drive a few minutes to Camp Wood, you can get service.) Otherwise, disconnecting is a blessing! FYI- RV campers are allowed to have dogs, but day campers are not. Our pup loved Cooksey Park.

Wes Cooksey Park was really nice. We had no RV when we went but we got day passes for 4 dollars a person. Nice clean relaxing area. Clean restrooms and showers. Fire pits and barbeque pits available. I would recommend this place.
