West Point Lake - COE/Amity

RV Park

Overview

Overview

Amity Campground at West Point Lake offers a serene escape for outdoor enthusiasts looking to reconnect with nature. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this park is nestled along the shoreline of a sprawling 26,000-acre reservoir. The atmosphere here is distinctly peaceful, prioritizing a wooded setting that allows campers to enjoy the quiet rustle of trees and direct water access. It is an ideal spot for those seeking a tranquil retreat away from the noise of typical commercial RV resorts.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Lanett, Alabama, the park provides a convenient yet secluded location near the Georgia border. The campground is positioned on a picturesque peninsula, giving many sites a breathtaking lake view. The surrounding landscape is lush and dominated by dense forests, which offer plenty of shade during the warmer months. Being centrally located between Atlanta and Montgomery makes it a reachable destination for travelers looking for a quick nature-focused getaway in the heart of the South.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility is designed for comfort without sacrificing the authentic camping experience. Guests can take advantage of full hookup sites, which are highly sought after for longer stays. Essential amenities including clean restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station are maintained by the park staff. Families and anglers will particularly appreciate the well-maintained boat ramp, which provides easy access to the water for recreational boating and fishing adventures throughout the day.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the campground boundaries, West Point Lake serves as a hub for water-based activities like swimming, jet skiing, and paddling. For those who enjoy terrestrial exploration, the local area features several hiking trails that wind through the beautiful Alabama landscape. Visitors can also head into the town of Lanett or nearby LaGrange to explore local historical landmarks and unique community parks. There is a perfect balance here between rugged outdoor exploration and accessible local culture for every type of visitor.

Who This Park Is Best For

Amity Campground is best suited for nature lovers, retirees, and families who prefer laid-back outdoor recreation over crowded, high-activity tourist parks. Our stay would’ve been perfect if the women up front wasn’t harassing myself and my guests the ENTIRE trip. Anytime we left our campsite she would stop us or have her husband stop us and tell us “rules” that didn’t even exist and I know they didn’t because I read the rules thinking maybe I was in the wrong… I wasn’t. She accused me of speeding through the park (I wasn’t even in the gate yet) she then had her husband approach me at my campsite to tell me again then for the THIRD time she called the cops to come to my campsite and tell me again (in this entire time I had driven through the camp twice once to my site and once out of the park and I also wasn’t even freaking speeding. Anytime the women “spoke” to us she had a genuinely TERRIBLE attitude and it needs to be seriously addressed. I have been going to this campground since I was a child and I can confidently say I will never return to it solely because of how the women and her husband upfront treated us. Oh also if you’re allergic to ants like myself they’re everywhere including fire ants.

I really had to wait until I posted this review. I needed to calm down and not post in anger. The old lady in the office smarted off at me before I even got out of my vehicle. She ruined my entire vacation. I was so angry that I didn't even go back to the office to ask why the campground map online doesn't match the campsite locations. I reserved a site specifically for it's location and when we got to the site, it was NOT where the map online showed. I don't know what was more disappointing: the vacation or that a woman wearing a Christian tee shirt was nasty to a complete stranger. Don't wear Christian themed tee shirts if you're going to act rudely.

The lady at the front was HORRIBLE. Extremely rude. She will ruin any hopes of you having a nice time at this lake. The lake is dirty too. We will never be returning to this lake. If they don’t get rid of her at the front then they will lose their campers. She went as far as to slam the little sliding door in our faces. When we left she stuck a grabber that you would use to pick up trash out of the window to grab our pass from my husband. VERY rude.

What a great campground! So great that we cancelled days at another place so we could stay longer. Lots of locals with families and boats and just good ole camping fun, cookouts and swimming and fishing and tubing. We camped in a small loop with only 6 sites, 31-36. Large enough for big rigs, and spacious enough you weren't on top of your neighbor. We're in a motorhome and two more showed up the next day with the same brand as ours. Nice chatting with them. We then moved over to Site 88, right next to boat ramp but lots of shade and privacy. Not much to do nearby but we ride bikes in nearby Pine Mountain, very nice bike trail called Man O War Trail. Also visited the nearby town of LaGrange for groceries and exploring. Overall we would definitely come back to camp here. They are only open 5 months out of the year, which is crazy. Staff was helpful and very friendly too.

I have been going to this campground for 40+ years. Love going & relaxing. The campgrounds are always very clean & maintained. However, I miss the playgrounds that used to be there for the kids. The bathrooms could use a little updating but I don't typically use them because I use our motorhome. Absolutely love Mr. Billy & Mrs. Suzanne, the gate attendants!!!
