The portley old fellow in the guard shack wouldnt allow my "Side by side" in the park. Aka a 2006 Club Cart dx GOLF CART (stock tires , 6in lift, 22in tires).... gave up & drove 30min to take it back home afterwards , read the fine print later that night(i was still mad)... aaaaand my cart passed ALL the requirements and then some.(max 8in lift & 23in tires) . If it wasn't my daugthers first time camping I would be asking for a damn refund . Doesn't take much to ruin the experience. What kind of grown man cant tell the difference between a SXS and a Golf Cart .... Would be FUNNY if it didn't happen to me!!!

This is a beautiful park with great mountain biking trails and beautiful views. Unfortunately we had to leave early because we were immediately infested with ants. 4 years of camping and this is the first time. It’s a known problem according to locals so it should be addressed by COE, and campers warned. We cut our trip short to come home and deal with this issue. Disappointing.

This campground has nice size spaces and terrific views of the Lake. The staff were polite, professional, and friendly. I saw several deer and some neat birds. The only down side was the trails. They were fairly over over grown, but there are plenty of roads along the Lake for walks.

We made these reservations and we visited the park a month before our scheduled visit to scope out the place. On that visit the lake was completely full however a month later on our scheduled stay the lake was way way way down. It would have been nice to have been notified that the lake was being drained prior to our check in dates. With the lake being so low it left us with nothing to do so our 3 night stay turned into 1 night and we left the next day.

We got a site (97) with great views of the lake. Lots of shade on most sites except our area. Great place for boats, fishing, biking and for families. The restroom is across the street and only a few showers. The allowed up to 4 equipment on one sites, but not allowed two RVs even Vans on one site ( I have 23ft class B and my friends have 19ft class B). We are not allowed to stay together. We’re passing through, we booked for two nights and decided to add one more because we like the place.

Loved this Park! We stayed at site# 74. It had a lake view, pretty good shade and an AMAZING view of the sunset! We ended up booking another site in June! For the June trip, we’ll bring some ant repellent though 😉

Just a one night stay. Senior citizens who have the National Park Pass Senior which got us 50% off our stay. Our site was quite large with the only thing missing was a sewer connection. Plenty of shade, picnic table, fire ring and view of the lake. A small toilet building was across the road.

Another beautiful COE campground. Lots of trees, level sites with electric and water. The sites are spacious and not too close to each other. Many are on the lake with stunning views. We are at site 91 and we have our own deck overlooking the lake.

Absolutely loves this place as a camp ground. We had a great spot that had room for my RV and a buddy with a tent. They have a lot of bathrooms that are a bit dated, but are kept very clean. The shower rooms where the same, but there were not many of them. Off season would be no problem, but during peak season, I would imagine it would be a bit of a wait to get a shower. I will MOST definitely be going back with so many awesome spots with great views of the lake.

The campground was very nice. Spots are VERY tight. Staff were rude. But the WORST was that they actually lock you in the campground. No way to enter/exit without calling the camp host for them to unlock the gate. And they are not very accommodating. I had a flat tire coming in and got there at 1030 to find the gate locked. When I called, I got the third degree about operating hours and too bad so sad speech. Kiddos had a fishing tournament in the morning so boat and cars were parked outside the gate. Camp host said they weren't getting up early to open the gate for fishing. Anyway. A key pad or combo would solve this issue, but I don't like being locked down. So just be aware ahead of time. Gate is locked!!!

Overall it was a decent campground. Very little if any privacy between campsites. Dangerous 6 inch plus drop offs on paved RV pads. You could easily twist or break your ankle, fall or worse. Gotta love the water views and the cheap price to camp. We really like every Corps park we have stayed.

Spent so many days here as a child. Loved the playground, the ducks, the ability to fish (even though I only caught panfish). Thank you!

An excellent camping experience and a beautiful park overall. We stayed at the R Shaefer Heard campground run by the Army Corp of engineers. The campground is really very well maintained and volunteers patrol regularly. Bathrooms are somewhat sparse for a campground and require a decent walk, but are modern and clean. There is a shared shower facility for the each of two camping areas.

Great campsite. Nice fire rings and views of the lake. Plan on returning later in the spring.
