White Mountain/Blackberry Crossing Campground

Overview

The White Mountain/Blackberry Crossing Campground offers a unique blend of history and nature within the heart of New Hampshire. Originally the site of a 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps camp, this small and intimate destination provides a rustic escape for those looking to disconnect. It serves as a gateway to the rugged beauty of the region, preserving a sense of heritage while offering direct access to the natural wonders of the White Mountain National Forest.

Location & Surroundings

Located just six miles west of Conway along the iconic Kancamagus Scenic Byway, the campground is nestled in a heavily wooded area. The Swift River flows nearby, providing a soothing natural soundtrack and opportunities for cooling off in the mountain water. Its position on Route 112 makes it a prime starting point for exploring the highest peaks in the Northeast and enjoying one of the most famous foliage drives in the United States.

Amenities & Park Features

As a forest service facility, the amenities here are basic but well-maintained, catering to those who enjoy a traditional outdoor experience. The park provides the following features for visitors:

  • Hand-pumped drinking water available seasonally for all guests.
  • Standard vault toilets located conveniently near the campsites.
  • Individual sites featuring a heavy-duty picnic table and a fire ring.

It is important to note that there are no hookups or dump stations on-site, making it a dedicated dry camping location.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Nanamocomuck Trail, which is accessible directly from the campground for hiking and cross-country skiing. A short drive leads to the bustling town of North Conway, known for its outlet shopping and local eateries. Visitors also enjoy the many scenic overlooks and waterfalls located along the Kancamagus Highway, including Lower Falls and Rocky Gorge, both of which are perfect for afternoon photography.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for travelers who prioritize a primitive camping experience over modern luxury resort amenities. It is best suited for tent campers, van lifers, and small to medium-sized RVs that do not require electricity or water connections. Those seeking solitude and historical charm will appreciate the quiet atmosphere and the opportunity to camp on grounds once occupied by the workers who built the region’s original mountain infrastructure.

Pretty good campground, if all the other campgrounds on the Kanc are booked up you can usually use this one as a last resort, they have a field towards the back with about 6 tent sites that are typically always free.

this used to be a 5 stars to me even with no services but since pro sport left and Vista came in the campsites on the kangamagus are in bad shape...trees are coming down and not being taken care of toilets need emptied always running out of toilet paper the forestry really needs to do something about this. the white mountains are beautiful but they are in need of some must needed care

I have been camping my entire life. We used to only stay at the Covered Bridge but as that campground became more reserved vs. first come it got to hard to find a site. We moved over to Blackberry and so glad we did. The campground is small but full of history. The host are ALWAYS so kind. Truly a wonderful campground to relax, enjoy family, and nature.
