White River/Blue River

Overview

Situated within the scenic expanse of the White River National Forest, the Blue River Campground offers a classic Colorado camping experience just north of Silverthorne. This facility provides a tranquil environment where the sounds of the rushing water define the atmosphere. It is primarily a rustic destination, catering to those who want to immerse themselves in the high-country landscape without the distractions of modern resort life. Visitors here enjoy a primitive style of camping that prioritizes natural beauty and immediate access to the great outdoors.

Location & Surroundings

Located at an elevation of approximately 8,000 feet, the park sits directly along the banks of the Blue River. The surrounding terrain is characterized by lodgepole pines and dramatic views of the rugged Gore Range. Its proximity to Highway 9 makes it easily accessible for travelers while still feeling tucked away in the forest. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by pristine alpine air and the unique geological beauty of Summit County, providing a picturesque backdrop for any RV excursion.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional Forest Service site, the amenities here are basic but well-maintained to ensure a comfortable stay. The park features vault toilets and trash collection for guest convenience. Each site is typically equipped with a heavy-duty picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for evening gatherings under the stars. It is important to note that there are no hookups or dump stations available on-site, making it an ideal choice for self-contained RVers who enjoy dry camping. The sites are generally leveled with gravel to accommodate various rig sizes.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for this location. The Blue River is a Gold Medal Trout Stream, offering world-class fly fishing just steps from your campsite. A short drive south leads to the Dillon Reservoir, where visitors can enjoy boating, kayaking, and lakeside cycling. For those seeking retail therapy or a meal out, the Silverthorne Outlets and local breweries provide a modern contrast to the wilderness setting. Numerous trailheads for the Eagles Nest Wilderness are also within easy reach for hikers of all skill levels.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is best suited for adventurous RVers who prefer a natural setting over a commercial RV resort. It is a fantastic choice for anglers, hikers, and photographers looking to capture the essence of the Rocky Mountains. If you travel in a self-contained unit and value peace, quiet, and direct access to the water, this National Forest gem provides the perfect basecamp for your high-altitude explorations. It is ideal for those who want to disconnect and enjoy a slower pace of travel.

Great campground. Some are on the water, some are up the hill. Some sites are right next to others and a couple are very private with trees and bushes in between. Only about 9 miles to town

Beautiful spot right on the river. $25 fee is a bit steep when there is dispersed camping right across the road but the river and multiple bathroom facilities are great. Spots are located close to each other but have plants seperating the camps.

Absolutely love this place so many places to get onto the River. Really is so much to see and enjoy. If you are looking for a campground you can't go wrong with Blue River Campground. The camping sites may be a little tight really nice Campground with plenty to do close to by.

We stayed at site 7, and there was little shade but a beautiful view of the hills and sky. Unfortunately, there is no access to the Blue River unless you go through other camp sites. The bathrooms are well maintained! The host was kind, and there is plenty of room between camp sites to not be bothered or bother others. There are a bunch of hikes and a few fishing spots nearby. Far enough from SilverThorn to feel in the wilderness and close enough to get anything you may need or want!
