White River/Pine Cove
Overview
Pine Cove Campground provides a serene and nature-focused escape on the banks of the Dillon Reservoir. Managed as part of the White River National Forest, this site offers a traditional camping experience that emphasizes the rugged beauty of the Colorado Rockies. Unlike modern paved resorts, this park maintains a peaceful, natural atmosphere where the sound of the wind through the pines and the lapping water of the reservoir take center stage. It serves as an excellent home base for travelers who want to immerse themselves in the high-altitude landscape of Summit County.
Location & Surroundings
The park is located on the Frisco Peninsula, just a short distance from the historic town of Frisco, Colorado. At an elevation of approximately 9,000 feet, the air is crisp and the views are expansive. Visitors are treated to panoramic vistas of the Tenmile Range and the surrounding lodgepole pine forests. Its proximity to Highway 9 makes it easily accessible, yet the lakeside positioning ensures a sense of seclusion from the hustle and bustle of the nearby resort towns.
Amenities & Park Features
Pine Cove is specifically designed for dry camping, meaning there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups available at the sites. Each of the campsites is equipped with a heavy-duty picnic table and a steel fire ring, making it perfect for evening cookouts. The park features vault toilets and provides access to trash collection services. While amenities are basic, the well-spaced sites offer more privacy than typical commercial parks, catering to those who bring their own power and water supplies.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water enthusiasts will find themselves in a prime location for boating and kayaking on the Dillon Reservoir, with a convenient boat ramp nearby. The area is a haven for cyclists, as it connects directly to the Summit County Recreation Path, a paved trail system that stretches for miles toward Breckenridge and Copper Mountain. In the summer months, the nearby Frisco Adventure Park offers disc golf and mountain biking, while the town of Frisco provides unique boutiques and local breweries for a relaxing afternoon off the trail.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for self-sufficient RVers who enjoy a primitive camping style and do not require full hookups. It is a fantastic choice for outdoor adventurers who plan to spend their days on the water or exploring mountain trails. Because of its rustic nature and scenic quietude, it is best suited for travelers seeking a deep connection with nature and those who prefer a more authentic, forest-service-style stay over a high-density RV park.

Wonderful stay at the campground. Our host Greg has been there many years and it's always nice to see him when we come back. He's a really good help while you're there. The bike trails are convenient and the lake is fun.

I love this campground! Probably stayed here at least 30 to 40 weeks over the years. Greg, the host is absolutely wonderful! Conveniently located and super clean! My favorite in the entire state of Colorado!

Great spot for overnight RVing. Beautiful views. It is on a First Come basis. Find an open spot, and it's yours. No hookups, just an RV or camping slot to park. State Parks run, so it's inexpensive. Bring cash or your checkbook to pay the State Park fee.

A big parking lot but amazing access to lake Dillon, pit toilets, fire rings, picnic tables. Great access to perimeter trail 👣.

One of g he best camping area ever. More like a parking lot and RVs/Trailers are parked next to each other. No one minds because there are so many outdoor activities to enjoy. It is beautiful! I almost hate to share info on this one and would prefer to keep it to myself....lol
