White River/Redstone
Overview
Redstone Campground, nestled within the expansive White River National Forest, offers a serene escape into the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Located just south of Carbondale along the West Elk Loop Scenic Byway, this destination provides a classic mountain camping experience characterized by towering evergreens and crisp alpine air. Visitors often seek this location for its peaceful atmosphere and immediate access to the natural beauty of the Crystal River Valley, making it a premier choice for those looking to disconnect and recharge in nature.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated along the banks of the Crystal River, surrounded by dramatic red rock cliffs and lush forests of pine and aspen. At an elevation of approximately 7,800 feet, the climate remains cool and comfortable even during the peak of summer. The surrounding landscape is a haven for biodiversity, where the scenic byway offers breathtaking vistas of rugged peaks. The proximity to the water and the dense forest canopy creates a secluded feel that is often missing from more modern, paved RV resorts.
Amenities & Park Features
While the setting is rustic, the park offers essential comforts that appeal to modern travelers. It is unique among many National Forest sites because it provides electrical hookups at many of its campsites, accommodating RVs that require power. While there are no individual water or sewer connections at the sites, potable water is readily available through shared spigots. Each site is thoughtfully designed with gravel parking pads, a picnic table, and a heavy-duty fire ring, ensuring a comfortable and organized setup for your stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
History and outdoor recreation collide just minutes from the campground. A short drive or bike ride leads to the historic village of Redstone, where travelers can explore the Redstone Castle and the iconic beehive-shaped Coke Ovens. Anglers will find excellent fly-fishing opportunities in the river, while hikers can access several nearby trailheads that lead deep into the wilderness. For a more rugged adventure, the town of Marble is a short trip away, offering tours to the world-famous Crystal Mill.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who prioritize natural immersion over resort-style amenities like pools or clubhouses. It is a perfect match for RVers who enjoy a more traditional camping style but appreciate the convenience of electricity. Those who value wildlife viewing, stargazing, and a quiet environment will find Redstone to be an exceptional home base. It is particularly well-suited for smaller to mid-sized rigs looking to explore the hidden gems of the Roaring Fork Valley.

The hosts in site 20 are so friendly and helpful! The bathrooms are immaculate! Even the pit toilets! And, i dont know how they do it, but the pit toilets don't smell! I never took a shower, but they do have solar heated water showers. They were used, so I assume they were fine. My happy surprise was that there is 30 amp power and water in sites 1-19. Recreation.gov doesn't provide that info (it says 15 amp service, but 30 amp is available as well as water!). Sites can be hot due to lack of shade, so choose wisely. Enjoy the gorgeous views in the campground!

The hosts in this campground are phenomenal. Very friendly, hard working, and prepared. The view in the group campground is stunning cliffs of Maroon Fm. Sandstone. Against a sunrise it's worth your effort to get here. The bear boxes in each site are welcome and should be used at all times. We saw several camp sites with food and trash left everywhere by clueless guests. Just one bear that gets used to food being found in that place means a nuisance bear. Don't get a bear killed because your lazy. Keep this wonderful and unique campground as a possible destination for future campers.
