White River Resort
Overview
White River Resort offers a serene escape nestled on the banks of the White River in the small village of Sayward, British Columbia. This park provides a perfect balance between rugged wilderness and comfortable convenience for travelers exploring northern Vancouver Island. Unlike the busy coastal hubs further south, this resort invites visitors to slow down and immerse themselves in the quiet majesty of the old-growth forests and glacial river waters that define the region.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated just off Highway 19, making it an accessible stop for those heading toward Port Hardy. However, its immediate surroundings feel miles away from civilization. The resort is framed by the towering peaks of the Prince of Wales Range and the lush, green canopy of the Sayward Valley. Guests are often treated to sightings of Roosevelt elk wandering through the nearby meadows or eagles soaring above the river.
Amenities & Park Features
Travelers will find a range of accommodations including full hookup RV sites with 30-amp service, as well as spacious dry camping spots for a more traditional experience. The park maintains essential facilities to ensure a comfortable stay, including clean washrooms, hot showers, and on-site laundry services. Each site typically includes a picnic table and a fire pit, allowing for peaceful evenings under the stars after a day of island exploration.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is the world-class fishing available in the White River and the nearby Salmon River, famous for steelhead and salmon runs. A short drive takes you to Kelsey Bay, where the historic wharf offers stunning views of Johnstone Strait and opportunities for whale watching or marine photography. Hiking enthusiasts can tackle the nearby Mount Cain trails or explore the shoreline, while photographers will appreciate the diverse birdlife and dramatic coastal landscapes.
Who This Park Is Best For
This resort is ideal for self-sufficient RVers and nature lovers who prioritize peace and quiet over luxury resort activities. It is a fantastic choice for anglers and photographers looking for a base camp to explore the wilder side of Vancouver Island. If you are seeking a destination that offers a genuine connection to the outdoors without sacrificing basic necessities like power and water, this riverside retreat is a perfect fit for your itinerary.

We arrived late while on a motorcycle trip without reservation. We were greeted very warmly. They were very welcoming and accommodating. Great spot, and great facilities.

Nice quiet, clean place. Friendly owners. I tented and there were good, flat spots for my tent. Fire pits. Wifi was good enough for phone calls in the camping area. Hot showers.

Super nice, well priced, clean camp! Awesome art works all over the grounds as well! Power and water at every tent spot and damn good wifi!

We spent May long weekend here two years ago and returned again this year. What a GORGEOUS place on our Island! What kind owners. What a serene and clean setting. We rented their 2 bedroom cabin... while the cabin had some quirks, it was CLEAN and COMFY! The rain on the metal roof was so soothing so even the rain couldn't put a damper on our enjoyment! THANKS! We'll be back again soon!
