Whiteshell Park/Big Whiteshell Lake

Overview

Big Whiteshell Lake Campground offers a quintessential Manitoba wilderness experience for travelers seeking a connection with nature. Located within the vast and iconic Whiteshell Provincial Park, it serves as a gateway to the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield. The park is characterized by its crystal-clear waters and dense boreal forest, providing a peaceful retreat for those looking to escape the hustle of city life. The area is also known for its incredible dark sky views, making it a favorite for stargazing enthusiasts and photographers alike.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near the community of Rennie, MB, this campground is nestled on the northern shores of Big Whiteshell Lake. The landscape is dominated by ancient granite outcrops and towering evergreens that create a dramatic and beautiful backdrop for campers. Because it sits deep within a protected provincial park, visitors are surrounded by thriving habitats where sightings of white-tailed deer, black bears, and bald eagles are common. The environment feels remote and untouched, offering a true northern wilderness atmosphere that is unique to this region of Canada.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground caters to various RV sizes with a mix of electrical and basic campsites designed to blend into the woods. Travelers will find essential services such as modern washrooms, coin-operated showers, and a convenient boat launch for easy lake access. For families, there are well-maintained playgrounds and a sandy beach perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The park also includes a fish cleaning station, which is a vital amenity for the many anglers who return to the docks after a successful day on the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the famous Mantario Trail, which is accessible from this region, or take a shorter trek to Castle Rock for a stunning panoramic view of the lake. Fishing is a major draw here, with the lake being home to healthy populations of walleye, northern pike, and yellow perch. For a change of pace, the Whiteshell Fish Hatchery in nearby Rennie offers educational tours that explain the local aquatic ecosystem and conservation efforts, providing a great afternoon excursion for all ages.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for active families and anglers who prioritize natural beauty and outdoor recreation over commercial resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for RVers who enjoy paddling and hiking, as well as those looking for a quiet home base to explore the eastern side of Manitoba. If you appreciate a rustic, woodsy setting where the primary entertainment is the great outdoors, this park will fit your travel style perfectly. It is a place where the sounds of the loon replace the sounds of traffic.

We are the third and fourth generation coming to the Whiteshell Lake Resort and we are still loving it! The cabins are well furnished with plenty of extras like DVD players. New this year was wifi (but don't tell the kids)! Such a peaceful and relaxing place with great owners and staff. There is so much to do at the resort and the area, that a week isn't ever long enough. Many families like ours return every year so it is like a big welcoming family reunion.
