Whiteshell Park/Caddy Lake

Overview

Caddy Lake Campground, nestled within the expansive Whiteshell Provincial Park, offers a classic Canadian wilderness experience. Known primarily for its unique water access and rugged Pre-Cambrian Shield landscape, this park serves as a gateway to the famous rock tunnels. Travelers come here to disconnect and immerse themselves in the pristine boreal forest that characterizes eastern Manitoba. It is a place where the sounds of the lake and the wind through the pines replace the noise of the highway, providing a peaceful retreat for those who appreciate the Great Outdoors.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the southeastern corner of Manitoba, Caddy Lake is surrounded by the rocky outcrops and deep lakes of the Canadian Shield. The park is easily accessible via Highway 44, making it a convenient yet secluded destination near the Ontario border. The landscape is dominated by granite ridges and mixed forests, providing a dramatic backdrop for RVers. The immediate area is defined by its interconnected waterways, which offer endless exploration opportunities through the surrounding backcountry and neighboring lakes.

Amenities & Park Features

While the focus here is on nature, the park provides essential comforts for RV travelers. The campground offers a mix of electrical and basic sites, accommodating various rig sizes in a forested setting that provides natural privacy. Visitors have access to several key features:

  • Access to a well-maintained boat launch for lake exploration.
  • A sandy beach area and playground for family recreation.
  • Clean washroom facilities and on-site firewood sales.

These features ensure that while you are deep in the woods, your stay remains comfortable and functional.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for many is paddling through the Caddy Lake Rock Tunnels, which were blasted through solid granite for the railway. Beyond the water, the McGillivray Falls Hiking Trail offers breathtaking views and moderate challenges for hikers. Fishing enthusiasts will find plenty of northern pike and walleye in the clear waters. For a bit more activity, the nearby West Hawk Lake, formed by a meteorite impact, offers scuba diving and additional dining options just a short drive away from your campsite.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurous paddlers who prioritize natural beauty over resort-style amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families looking to introduce their children to the joys of nature with the convenience of an RV. If you enjoy wildlife viewing and quiet nights under a clear, starry sky, Caddy Lake will suit your travel style perfectly. It is best for those who want a quiet basecamp for exploring the rugged and historic wilderness of the Whiteshell.

We had an excellent time camping here. The campsites are nice, ours had its own private trail that let to a rock spot off the lake, it was beautiful. The bathrooms are also very nice here and there is showers if needed. Lots of hiking trails to explore with many sites. The road to get here has lots of twists and turns, luckily alot of the roads have been repaved and are nice to drive on. Highly recommend checking out Whiteshell it is a beautiful piece of Manitoba
