Whitney Lake - COE/Lofers Bend East

Overview

Lofers Bend East Park is a well-maintained Corps of Engineers facility located on the eastern shore of Lake Whitney in Texas. Known for its scenic views and direct access to the Brazos River, this park offers a classic camping experience for modern travelers. It successfully balances natural beauty with essential hookups, making it a favorite for those seeking a quiet getaway. The park provides a serene lakeside atmosphere where the focus is on the great outdoors and the expansive, star-filled Texas sky.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near the Whitney Dam, the park is characterized by its limestone bluffs and dense hardwood forests. The campsites are nestled among mature oak and cedar trees, offering plenty of shade and privacy for visitors. Because it sits right on the shoreline, many sites provide unobstructed views of the water. The surrounding Hill County landscape is rugged and peaceful, offering a true escape from the hustle of urban life while remaining within a reasonable drive of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Amenities & Park Features

RVers will find sites equipped with electric and water hookups, though it is important to note there are no sewer connections at individual sites. However, a centrally located dump station is easily accessible for all guests. The park features a multi-lane boat ramp, making it easy for boaters and jet skiers to get onto the water quickly. Other amenities include accessible restrooms with hot showers, a playground for families, and designated picnic areas to enjoy the breeze off the lake.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water recreation is the primary draw here, as the lake is famous for its clear waters. Visitors can enjoy trophy bass fishing or explore the hidden coves by kayak or canoe. For those who prefer land-based activities, the nearby Lake Whitney State Park offers additional hiking and biking trails. If you are looking for a day trip, the city of Waco is just a short drive south. There, you can visit the Magnolia Market or explore the historic suspension bridge before returning to your quiet campsite.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and boaters who prioritize a peaceful environment over resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for families looking to fish and swim together in a safe, quiet setting. Since many of the sites can accommodate larger rigs, it is also a great stop for full-time RVers exploring the scenic Brazos River valley. If you enjoy waking up to the sound of birds and the gentle lapping of water, this COE park is a perfect fit for your travel style.

What a wonderful park. We reserved #27. One or two trees close but not shade like I’d hoped for BUT we were right at the water so that made it up for me! Neighbors close but not too close. Picnic table under a shelter, had a fire pit and bbq pit. Dog friendly and all dogs we saw were leashed which was a nice relief. Clean restroom facilities, parks for the kids, trails for walking, ppl fishing, just a very nice park. Park Host stopped by and welcomed us and passed out our parking hangers.

Our camp site was shaded and close to the water. Caught some fish and saw a herd of deer. Park is clean and well kept. The staff were very nice. We love Lake Whitney and this place was great. Nice and quiet.

A nice park with hookups for my trailer. I camped at site 28 which would be pretty close to the water if not for the drought (August 2022). It's been quiet here the whole time (8 nights) even over the weekend. This park will be a favorite of mine. Both Lofers Bend East & West have their charms, from the perspective of a nature photographer.

Nice and spacious camp sites. Clean facilities and park. Wasn’t over crowded at all even though all the sites around us were in use. Shoreline is rocky not sand. Bob & Kelly at the gate are super nice and full of great tips!

Beautiful campsite with spacious sites. Annoying curfew policy - the gate is locked at 10pm and you can't drive to your site after that.
