This is a great spot to escape the intense summer heat—it’s cool, shaded, and the sound of the stream running through the valley is beautiful. On our way to Coos Bay, we stopped briefly to let the dogs relieve themselves. The scenery was stunning and the water impressively clear, but the area felt a bit neglected. Around the picnic tables, weeds had grown wild, and there was a noticeable sense of disorder. Still, it’s a worthwhile stop along the coast-bound route. If you’re looking to take a lunch break, I’d recommend it. Otherwise, there may not be a strong reason to seek it out specifically. If the grounds are better maintained in the future, I’d definitely consider returning.

I really wanted to rate this place horribly to keep it a hidden gem/secret, but I just can't do that. This is an absolutely beautiful campsite. I was worried about other reviews because of the mentioned "overgrowth." I felt that the campsites were well maintained and that the foliage gave us a good amount of seclusion and privacy. The camp host was both friendly and knowledgeable. There's a beautiful swimming hole and trails along the river. We camped with ebikes and were able to explore the surrounding roads and even stumbled across a random little grave site from the 1800s. The roads had a good amount of tree canopy to protect us from the sun and keep us cool from the heat. I saw my first crawdads ever, and honestly, the whole experience was magical. 10/10 recommend, ans bring water shoes!!!

I stepped outside my comfort zone and went camping for the very first time by myself. I don't even have a lot of experience camping with others. I built a fire, twice! I was grateful to find a spot open as I just did this on the fly. I did cry myself to sleep but I'm okay with that. 😂 Sleeping bags are slippery. I was so uncomfortable. I will make sure I have a different type of bed next time. Nice camp hosts. Peaceful river.

So peaceful and tranquil. Amazing wildlife all around. So many different plants tons of edible berries and stuff for foragers the fishing is excellent and it is just so beautiful. Even when it's raining it's relaxing to hear the rain pitter on top of the tent. Just don't leave any food around or trash. Keep your site very clean. Bears are awake and looking for food sources. We already got paid a visit our third day out here. And other then that they're is so much to explore as long as you're safe about it. Always carry flashlights and some sort of bear spray or protection. Good idea to carry a compass and emergency first aid kit. Also, lots of small trees have been falling across roads so please drive slowly. People also have small animals running freely because of the remote locations of camps please drive cautious thank you!

Second time being at Whittaker Creek and I love it! The camp hosts are an amazing couple who do an excellent job making sure things run smoothly and that visitors are taken care of. Took this second trip back in September and finally remembered to give a review. This is an amazing place to bring yourself, family, friends, or have a romantic time away. I highly recommend coming here, experiencing all of what Oregon has to offer has been amazing and I can't wait to experience more! It's beautiful because you really get to see all the beauty and being out in nature is a recharge we can all use, especially now. There are so many campsites and I can't wait to explore more once the weather let's up and Spring and Summer Start. You won't regret coming here and I hope you all enjoy it as much as me and my family do ❤

Austa Covered Bridge at Wildcat creek & Whittaker Creek campground are my favorite places to go for a visit. When you're camping at Whittaker, you can be assured you will be well taken care of by the camp host & hostess. They are the sweetest, most hard working & observant folks you'll ever meet. When you want to cool off, its a 3-5 minute drive across 126 to the covered bridge. Austa boat ramp. The water is perfect & feels awesome on a hot day. There are tons of butterflies, dragonflies, birds, fish, lizards, crawdads roaming about. The whole vibe is peaceful & my SUV goes down the rocks nicely so I can be right on the water!
