Overview

Wildcat Creek Rec Area offers a serene escape on the eastern shores of Kentucky Lake. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this park provides a classic outdoor experience where the focus is centered on natural beauty and direct water access. It is widely recognized for its well-shaded campsites and a peaceful atmosphere that allows travelers to disconnect from the hustle of daily life while enjoying the gentle sounds of the lake. It is a quiet destination where the landscape does most of the talking.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Calloway County just a short drive from Murray, the park is nestled along a scenic inlet of Kentucky Lake. The surrounding landscape is defined by dense hardwood forests and the rolling topography of Western Kentucky. Its unique position provides easy access to the sprawling waters of one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the United States, offering a perfect blend of secluded woodland and expansive waterfront views that change beautifully with the seasons.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features several dozen sites equipped with water and electric hookups, accommodating both moderate-sized RVs and tent campers. Visitors have access to essential facilities including a central dump station, a bathhouse with hot showers, and a playground for families. One of the most valued features is the on-site boat ramp, which provides convenient entry to the lake for days spent on the water. Most sites are level and gravel-padded, tucked under a mature tree canopy that provides relief during the summer heat.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to explore, starting with the world-class fishing and boating available right from the park’s shoreline. A short drive across the water lies the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, offering hundreds of miles of hiking trails and unique wildlife viewing opportunities. For a change of pace, the nearby city of Murray provides charming local boutiques, diverse dining options, and various cultural events hosted by Murray State University throughout the year.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for anglers and boaters who want immediate lake access without the noise of a high-traffic commercial resort. It is also a fantastic choice for families and retirees seeking a budget-friendly, nature-first getaway where they can enjoy swimming, birdwatching, and traditional campfires. Good camping and friendly campers abound. Fair prices. The playground and beach area are being upgraded but we're nice without any upgrades. There is a TVA boat launch and parking next door, with locked boat storage area adjacent to the campground. Never did I find the restrooms dirty. Firewood and ice are there and payment is on the honor system. There is a washer and dryer on site that I was told worked, but I never tried it. Would I return? Yes if they had a slip to rent so we could leave the boat in the water all season.

1st year under new ownership. My wife and I have been trying to secure a year round site at this beautiful campground for 3 years. The previous management wouldn’t take a phone number for when a spot opening would occur. After new owner Dennis Miller took ownership last fall he answered all my questions and gave us a personal tour of available sites and told of his plans to update the campground service and amenity’s. They organized a cookout for the campground and furnished food and answered questions about campground rules and changed rules where the majority of renters agreed. Now one month into the 2023 season several changes have taken place including boosters on the free wi-fi. Upgrades to the freshly painted shower houses and an improvement to allow adult children of site renters to also enjoy their parents site without the parents being present. If your looking for a gated campground on beautiful Kentucky lake, that’s clean, quiet and peaceful, give Dennis a call and ask about availability. If you haven’t seen Wildcat creek campground before your missing out on what others have found to be our little piece of heaven on earth. Update; going into the third season, we couldn’t be happier. Many improvements have been made, including the entrance gate, beach area, hot water heaters in the bath houses and they have also added a new Glamping option wall tent with all the amenities you will need which can be found on Airbnb . Many friends have been made and the memories are adding up.

We stayed over our kids spring break. The weather was cooler but we made the best of it. Town of Murray is very close by and there is an endless amount of things to do. The campground is clean! The shower house/ bathrooms were Clean! Easy to back into our spot with a 33' bumper pull. Fishing is usually good this time of year but it was too windy for us to go on a boat. We tried our hand at a near by campground that had deeper water off their docks but the wind was not for the kids so we just adventured off on a couple of hikes through the wood following the creek.
