Wilderness Park (Juneau County Park)

Managed by the Juneau County Parks Department, it serves as a peaceful retreat for those who enjoy being tucked away in the woods while remaining close to the water. It is an ideal spot for visitors who value scenic lake views and a slower pace of life.

Located just outside of Necedah, Wisconsin, the park occupies a prime position on the shores of Castle Rock Lake. The surrounding area is characterized by dense forests and the expansive waters of Wisconsin's fourth-largest inland lake. The park provides easy access to the water, making it a central hub for those exploring the central part of the state. The landscape transitions from towering pines to sandy shorelines, offering a diverse environment that feels secluded yet is easily accessible via local county roads.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features a variety of sites, including many with electric hookups suitable for different RV sizes. Essential facilities include a clean bathhouse with showers, a dump station, and a fresh water fill-up area. For those bringing boats, the on-site boat launch and dock space are major highlights, providing direct access to the lake. Families often appreciate the playground and the designated swimming beach, while the fish cleaning station serves the many anglers who visit the park to catch walleye and panfish.

My family absolutely loves it out here every year that we get a seasonal site. The campsite are big enough to bring a boat and space for 2 other vehicles. The staff is very helpful and they also check on the campsites every day and night. The wildlife is so amazing with different kinds of birds, rabbits, bunnies. It's pet friendly and all the kid's are totally safe when down swimming, riding bikes and taking nature walks. Yes sometimes there's algae on the lake but it normal every year when the lake turns over but after that its clear again to take boats out and kid's could go swimming. My family loves it every year!!! Keep up the amazing work staff. Awesome job!!!

We really love here. The people in the office are very pleasant to work with. They look out for their campers here. We've been camping here for many years. We're extended seasonal campers. Wouldn't go anywhere else. It's clean and well taken care of. Our other family members have sites also because it's so enjoyable. Kids are safe at the playground or riding bikes. It's just a great place to be.

We stayed here for two weeks and had a great time. The people who run it are the best. Nice and clean showers. Great boat ramp and an amazing campsite.

We stayed here for 2 weeks and it was wonderful. We stayed at one of the electric sites away from the lake in the forested area. Very private and quiet. The sites by the lake get very crowded and noisy on weekends, so we were glad we didn’t choose to stay in that area. Nicely groomed hiking trails, too! Beware of ticks. Showers were clean. You will need quarters for the showers.

Sept 2024 - Stayed 5 days over Labor Day weekend. Crowd was interesting, but overall well mannered for quiet hours. We had site 9 which was absolutely amazing. Pull through from site 8 if unoccupied. Great hiking trail too! August 2023 - Good for spring and fall, probably best to avoid summer. Bugs, algae just to name a couple downers. A single water toilet/bathhouse which is central but quite far for backwoods and southern shore spots. About 6 great spots 108 and 113-118 for water views, though no stairs to launch kayaks from sites. Very quiet, no roads nearby so estimate 15 min to get to nearest Kwik Trip.
