Woodson Bridge SRA

Overview

Woodson Bridge SRA offers a lush, shaded sanctuary tucked away along the banks of the Sacramento River. This state recreation area is renowned for its preservation of a riparian forest, featuring some of the last remaining groves of massive valley oaks in the region. Unlike the open, sun-drenched landscapes common in the Central Valley, this park provides a dense canopy that keeps the grounds cool and inviting for travelers looking to reconnect with nature in a tranquil riverfront setting. It serves as a quiet refuge for those wanting to escape the highway noise and settle into a slower pace of life.

Location & Surroundings

Located roughly nine miles east of Corning, CA, the park is situated in the heart of the Sacramento Valley. The surrounding area is characterized by agricultural fields and orchards, but the park itself feels like a hidden woodland retreat. The Sacramento River borders the park, providing a constant cooling influence and a scenic backdrop of flowing water and diverse wildlife. The landscape is dominated by ancient valley oaks, sycamores, and cottonwoods, creating a distinct forest environment that is rare in this part of California.

Amenities & Park Features

Woodson Bridge SRA is a nature-focused destination rather than a luxury resort. The park offers dry camping sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers up to approximately 31 feet in length. While there are no hookups available, visitors have access to essential facilities including restrooms and hot showers. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, allowing for a classic camping experience under the stars. A sanitary dump station is also provided on-site for the convenience of RV travelers passing through the area.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for visitors is the river, which is famous for world-class fishing. Depending on the season, anglers flock here for king salmon, steelhead, and shad. For those who enjoy being on the water, there is a boat launch located at the adjacent Tehama County park, making it easy to spend a day on the river. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the birdwatching opportunities, as the park is a known habitat for the rare Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Easy hiking trails wind through the preserve, offering peaceful walks through the woods.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts who prefer a quiet, rustic atmosphere over a busy commercial campground. Because of the size limitations and lack of hookups, it is best suited for mid-sized RVs or van lifers who are self-contained and value privacy and natural beauty. It is a premier choice for avid anglers looking for convenient river access and a peaceful place to rest between fishing excursions in a scenic, wooded environment.

There were millions of goatheads. Lots of cliffs. On the trail that's On the opposite side of the boat dock. The water was beautiful, great place to swim. In the river normally you don't want to swim in the river.

Nice place to spend some time outdoors. The river is cold and beautiful. The oak trees are huge and impressive.

The campground is nice and spacious between sites. It was hot when we stayed in May and with no electricity, it was kind of a sweaty night, but in the morning it was nice. Access to the river is a bit of a hike through the trees and tall grass, to the neighboring park. There may be access at different times of the year but when we were there, the river was up to the banks.

Good for one or two night camping, campground is decent and not very crowded. The host and the rangers were very good. There's a small beach on Sacramento river where you can swim, kayak, otherwise there's not much to do. No proper hiking trails. Showers facility available.
