Wyalusing/Wisconsin Ridge
Overview
Wyalusing State Park offers a truly breathtaking camping experience at the Wisconsin Ridge Campground. Positioned high above the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers, this park provides some of the most iconic vistas in the Midwest. As one of Wisconsin's oldest state parks, it balances historical significance with natural beauty, making it a bucket-list destination for RV travelers exploring the Driftless Area. The park is renowned for its dramatic landscape and quiet, natural atmosphere.
Location & Surroundings
Located in Bagley, WI, the park sits atop majestic 500-foot bluffs overlooking the expansive river valley. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rugged ridges, deep valleys, and lush hardwood forests. Because it is part of the Driftless Area, the terrain escaped the flattening effects of the last glacier, resulting in a unique geography that feels more mountainous than typical Midwestern plains. The views of the winding river systems from the ridge are unparalleled in the region.
Amenities & Park Features
The Wisconsin Ridge Campground is specifically designed for those who appreciate a scenic setup. It features several sites with electric hookups that are suitable for various RV sizes, though larger rigs should check site dimensions carefully before arrival. Campers have access to a sanitary dump station, fresh water, and modern shower facilities with flush toilets. Each site is equipped with a sturdy fire ring and picnic table, providing a comfortable space to enjoy the quiet evenings and fresh air.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find endless activities within the park and the surrounding Bagley area. You can explore the Sentinel Ridge Trail to view ancient Native American burial mounds or venture out on the unique marked canoe trail through the river sloughs. Just a short drive away, history buffs can visit Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien or cross the river to see Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa, making it a great base for regional sightseeing.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for RVers who prioritize scenic views and nature over commercial resort amenities. It is a true haven for birdwatchers, specifically those hoping to spot bald eagles or migratory birds soaring over the river valley. If you enjoy a tranquil, rustic atmosphere where the primary entertainment is watching the sunrise over the fog-filled river gorge, this park will perfectly suit your travel style.

Overall we had a great first trip here. The campground is beautiful and we will definitely be back. Didn’t get a chance to hike much but still enjoyed the hazy/smokey views.

Had a great time camping here. Bathrooms are updated and clean. We stayed in the lower (homestead) and it was fun falling to sleep to the cicadas. Very family-friendly with fun activities available. We brought our kayaks and enjoyed doing the loop. Some of the signs for the trail can be hard to find, but better than last year.

The park is well maintained and all the trails are clearly marked! There are tons of different things to experience. We had the opportunity to visit some of the Effigy Mounds, a couple lookout points, and hiked to a couple caves. It is a must visit State Park!

Nice, large state park. Lots of campsites, trails. Great views. Campsites look nice, shady and roomy. ************************************ June 2025 Edit to add: Finally spent a few nights tent camping here. Reserved our site online. There are so many sites throughout the park; familiarize yourself online. Our site was within yards of a toilet only facility and a short walk from the shower/bathroom building. Both facilities were very clean. The shower rooms were large and extremely clean with good water pressure and warm water. Our campsite was spacious with a fire pit that had a movable grate for grilling on. We did notice some campsites have electricity if you need that. Lots of trails for hiking and exploring. Found a route down to the boat launch where kayaks and canoes are available to rent. There is also an area with basketball, tennis/pickle ball, volleyball courts. Sports equipment can be borrowed free from the concession stand. Ice, drinks, cold treats, wood can be purchased here. There is also a large shelter with picnic tables and fire places. At the turn into the park there is a small, quaint "store" where you can buy wood also. Overall, you will not be disappointed camping here. It is truly a beautiful park with top rate facilities. Views are gorgeous, as evidenced in my photos. If you deem my review helpful please give it a 👍.

One word... Stunning! We stopped for one night in mid March, while traveling on the Great River Rd and were amazed to see the park- at the camp sites & views. The sites are located on a bluff high above the confluence of the Mississippi & Wisconsin Rivers. Sites are very clean & fairly level. Because we arrived during the off-season, all the facilities were unavailable. (No surprise as the website was very clear on what to expect). There was only 1 other camper that we saw. Temps were in the 20s with 40-50 mph winds! I was very interested in the observatory & would love to visit again during better weather. We watched Bald Eagles soar above usI can only imagine what the night sky would look like. Definitely recommend!
