Yard Creek Park

Overview

Yard Creek Park offers a lush, forested escape in the Eagle Valley of British Columbia. Situated along the Trans-Canada Highway, this park serves as a serene sanctuary for travelers looking to reconnect with nature. The campground is characterized by its towering cedar and hemlock trees, providing ample shade and a sense of seclusion even for those just passing through the Shuswap region. It is widely recognized for its beautiful creek-side setting and refreshing mountain air that defines the interior rainforest experience.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the small community of Malakwa, BC, the park sits midway between the popular destinations of Sicamous and Revelstoke. The surrounding landscape is defined by the Monashee Mountains and the flowing waters of Yard Creek. While its proximity to the highway makes it a convenient stop for RVers, the dense forest canopy helps to buffer the noise, creating a tranquil environment surrounded by rugged mountain scenery and diverse local wildlife common to the Eagle River corridor.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed for a traditional camping experience with several spacious campsites suitable for various RV sizes. Standard amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, and access to clean pit toilets. While it emphasizes a rustic atmosphere without full hookups, visitors have access to potable water taps and a large community picnic shelter for group gatherings. There is also a playground for children and a network of easy walking trails that meander through the temperate rainforest, following the banks of the creek.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure seekers can explore the nearby Eagle River for fishing or head to Sicamous to experience the famous Shuswap Lake houseboating scene. History buffs should visit Craigellachie, the site of the Canadian Pacific Railway's Last Spike, which is only a short drive away. Additionally, the surrounding area offers extensive opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and exploring the unique local shops and dairies found within the fertile Eagle Valley, making it a great base for day trips.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts and road-trippers who prefer a quiet, wooded environment over a busy commercial resort. It is perfectly suited for those seeking a scenic overnight stop during a long journey across British Columbia or for families who enjoy simple outdoor activities like hiking and birdwatching. If you appreciate large, private sites and the sound of a rushing creek as your background noise, Yard Creek Park will fit your travel style perfectly.

This first come first service non service campsite is really good. Super easy to get to off the #1 highway. Signage is not great but google got us here. We camp in a 30 foot 5th wheel and had no trouble finding a spot. The paved roads are well maintained and the sites are well treed and fairly level. It has a sani dump and drinking water. It has a hiking trail but no other activities which is fine for us. Wood is $10 and the camp staff are around and friendly. Outhouses are clean and this location has cell service.

A great place to stop when travelling through, with easy access off #1 Highway, and just 13 km’s east of Sicamous, BC. Only $20.00 for a night. It has a good Sani Station with potable water, but paid an extra $2.00 for that. What a bargain. This is a rustic campground without power, water or sewer at each Site but water taps are in each camping loop. It’s a very quiet campground with a Host, and has nice hiking trails. There’s also a parking area for day use only.

Fantastic place to stop for a night! We were on our way through and needed a place to pitch our tent. The sites are absolutely gorgeous!! It was quiet, except for a bit of traffic noise from highway 1. If you don’t mind using an outhouse, which was clean and didn’t smell bad, this is a great choice!

Yard Creek Campground is a beautiful hidden gem that’s perfect for a peaceful getaway. It’s one of the best camping sites I’ve been to. Its 65 lots are all so spacious and private where you can relax to the sound of Yard Creek flowing nearby. The campground and its outhouses are well-maintained and offer plenty of chances to see wildlife. There is running water, strong cellphone signal, firewood, as well as picnic tables and fire pits. There is a sani-station for RVs at the end of the main park road. Bring lots and lots of mosquito repellent!

Amazingly well maintained campground just off the trans-Canada hwy. This place is one of the best I have seen in BC. Each campsite is secluded from the next and there are many of them. As well , there is a sani-dump and clean outhouses.
