Yosemite/Lower Pines
Overview
Located in the heart of Yosemite Valley, Lower Pines Campground offers an authentic national park experience for those seeking adventure. It is one of the most sought-after locations for RVers looking to stay within the iconic granite walls of the valley. This seasonal campground provides a rugged yet accessible basecamp for exploring the park’s legendary landscapes and historic landmarks. Unlike modern luxury resorts, this destination focuses on natural serenity and immediate proximity to the park most famous natural wonders.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated near the banks of the Merced River, surrounded by a dense canopy of towering pines and fir trees. From many campsites, guests can enjoy stunning views of North Dome and the surrounding granite cliffs that define the California landscape. Its central position in Yosemite Valley means you are nestled perfectly between the amenities of Curry Village and the trailheads at Happy Isles. The environment is distinctly alpine and immersive, with the sounds of the flowing river providing a peaceful backdrop.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional National Park Service site, Lower Pines provides dry camping only, meaning there are no water, sewer, or electric hookups. Each spot is equipped with a paved parking pad, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Crucially, every site includes a mandatory bear-resistant food locker to protect local wildlife. While there are restrooms with flush toilets on-site, travelers needing a dump station or water fill-ups will find those facilities located at the nearby Upper Pines area.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Staying at this location puts you at the doorstep of the Mist Trail trailhead, which leads hikers toward the breathtaking Vernal and Nevada Falls. You are also just a short shuttle ride or a scenic bike ride away from the majestic Yosemite Falls. For those who enjoy photography or gentle walks, the Mirror Lake loop is easily accessible from the campground. The proximity to Curry Village is a major perk, allowing for quick trips to grab hot meals or camping supplies.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prioritize a prime location over modern luxury amenities. It is a perfect fit for active families and avid hikers who want to be the first on the trails before the daily crowds arrive. If you appreciate a rustic, communal atmosphere and do not mind living without Wi-Fi or constant electricity, Lower Pines offers an unparalleled connection to the majesty of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

We had a wonderful stay at Lower Pines Campground. The campsite was spacious and well-maintained, with plenty of room for our tent and gear. Everything was clean, and the atmosphere was peaceful and quiet, even at night. It’s a great place to relax after a day of hiking and exploring Yosemite Valley. The location is also very convenient — close to the Merced River and within walking distance to many scenic spots. We’d definitely stay here again!

It's Yosemite, how can you possibly go wrong? They need to "get over it" and put in more parking. There are two useless grassy fields that need to be converted to parking. It's ridiculous to have so many people driving in circles trying to find parking. You better get there by 9am if you want to find a parking spot

We stayed for 5 days at Lower Pines Campground! The bathrooms were clean, the neighbors were quiet, and the hosts were warm and friendly. It was such a peaceful and cozy spot—perfect for unwinding and enjoying nature.

The best campground in the world. Everything is just perfect. Nature, location, wild life, trails, river, facilities (huh?)
