Adirondack/Point Comfort
Overview
Point Comfort State Campground is a tranquil escape situated on the southwestern shore of Piseco Lake. This facility offers a classic outdoor experience for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the Adirondack wilderness. Unlike modern commercial resorts, this park focuses on providing a quiet, natural connection to the environment. With spacious campsites carved out of a mature forest of birch and maple, visitors enjoy a sense of privacy and seclusion that is increasingly rare in popular travel destinations.
Location & Surroundings
Located near the hamlet of Piseco in the town of Lake Pleasant, the park is defined by its prime waterfront access to one of the region’s most beautiful lakes. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the vast Silver Lake Wilderness, where the air is crisp and the scenery is untouched. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by rolling mountains and crystal-clear water, providing a perfect backdrop for a peaceful retreat away from the sounds of the highway.
Amenities & Park Features
The facilities at this location prioritize a traditional camping experience over luxury. The park provides a concrete boat launch for those eager to spend their days on the water. While the park maintains a rustic atmosphere, it includes several essential features for comfortable stays:
- Large, wooded private campsites equipped with fire rings and picnic tables.
- Access to clean vault toilets and conveniently located water spigots.
- A sandy beach area perfect for shoreline relaxation and swimming.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities in the immediate area. The Echo Cliffs Trail on Panther Mountain is a must-visit hike nearby, offering hikers a stunning panoramic view of Piseco Lake from the summit. For those who enjoy water sports, the lake is ideal for paddling and fishing, with lake trout and landlocked salmon being popular catches. A short drive into the town of Lake Pleasant provides access to local golf courses, small-town shops, and additional hiking trailheads.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for RVers who prefer boondocking-style camping and value tranquility over high-end amenities like full hookups or cable TV. It is a perfect fit for families and solo travelers looking to unplug and spend their days swimming or sitting by a campfire. Because the sites are generous in size, it is a great choice for those seeking a traditional forest experience without the bustle often found at more commercialized RV parks.

(I went to "LITTLE SAND POINT" Campground NOT "Point Comfort"! My review below is for Little Sand Point. I only looked at site at Point Comfort when I left for home.) Looks like a fine little DEC campground but I stayed at it's "sister" campground "Little Sand Point" further along the road and LOVED it & will go there again! Great staff! Great sites! Hike up Echo Cliffs across road for great views of Piseco Lake!

So peaceful and we were right on the lake. Kids had fun riding their bikes. Nice hot clean showers.

Amazing place. I was met upon arrival by Jon, the caretaker. What a great guy. Customer service was above and beyond. I can't wait to go back!

Great campground, John and all the staff very very kind and accommodating. Canoe/row boat rentals are super easy, the beach on the lake is very nice as well. Restrooms are abundant and well maintained. Cold running water faucets are scattered throughout the campground which is convenient. No service and no WiFi makes this an authentic camping experience! Only partially negative is that showers are about a 3-4 minute drive down the road which is ok, you’re camping! Some camp sites can be a little close to each other but assuming there are available sites and you wish to be more secluded the staff will move you without a problem if you ask. Overall great experience.

This campground was exactly what we were after. Our site was right on the water so we had beautiful views of the lake right outside our tent. No cell service, no distractions. John Howard was the ranger during our stay and he is excellent. Nicest guy you could hope to meet. He checked in on us each evening and had dog treats for our pup. All of the other staff were top notch as well - always friendly, answered our questions, but also left us alone to relax! The bathrooms have vault toilets, but they were clean and much more pleasant than the latrines at rustic sites you can find. The bathhouse is down the road so you have to drive maybe 3 minutes to get there - but there's a bathhouse! And it's a really nice bathhouse! Yes, the sites are pretty close together so if you're looking for something where you have no neighbors this may not be the place for you. For us, it was everything we hoped for!

Very small, but very clean. More on the rustic side of camping which I loved. Staff was all super friendly and helpful. Doesn'took like much, but I had a great time there and will go back.

This is a real camping experience. No electricity, toilets that don't flush, and no Wi-Fi or service. If u can't live without that stuff u shouldn't be camping! Signs on beach say no wading or bathing but plenty of people swam with no issues. I think they're trying to keep chemicals like shampoo out of the water. Had a great stay with the kids showers up the road were great. Staff was super friendly to us and our dogs. Kids get a chance to do an activity book and get a badge this year was about the Fisher weasel. The climb up Panther Mountain to Echo cliffs is a great View and steep hike well worth it. Hope to make this a tradition and come back next year to get a new badge

I come every year and look forward to the following year. Family has been coming to the area my whole life. The views are beautiful, nice hiking trails for beginners and up.
