Arkansas River Rim Campground & RV Park

Overview

Arkansas River Rim Campground & RV Park offers a serene mountain getaway nestled in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. This park is widely recognized for its stunning riverfront access and unobstructed views of the Collegiate Peaks. Unlike high-traffic commercial resorts, it provides a quieter, more personal atmosphere where visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the Arkansas River valley while maintaining modern conveniences for their motorhomes and trailers.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just north of downtown Buena Vista, the park sits at an elevation that keeps the air crisp and the views expansive. The campground is bordered directly by the Arkansas River, providing a rhythmic backdrop of flowing water throughout the day. Guests are surrounded by the majestic Sawatch Range, which includes several of Colorado's most famous fourteen-thousand-foot peaks, making the park feel like a secluded mountain sanctuary despite its easy access to Highway 24.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility caters to various travel styles with full hookup sites offering both 30 and 50-amp service. Many sites are designed as spacious pull-throughs to accommodate larger rigs, while several premium spots sit directly on the river’s edge. Essential on-site amenities include clean restroom and shower facilities, a laundry room, and designated pet areas for travelers with dogs. Each site typically features a picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for gathering under the stars after a day of high-altitude exploration.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

This region is a primary destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Arkansas River provides world-class whitewater rafting and fly fishing opportunities just steps from your campsite. A short drive leads to the historic town of Buena Vista, where visitors can explore local artisan shops and farm-to-table eateries. For relaxation, the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs are a local favorite, while hikers can find endless trailheads within the surrounding San Isabel National Forest.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for travelers seeking a peaceful mountain retreat rather than a bustling resort with organized social activities. It is perfectly suited for fly fishermen, nature photographers, and couples looking for a scenic and quiet home base. Because of its unrivaled riverfront location, it is also a top pick for those who find tranquility in being near the water and appreciate waking up to panoramic alpine vistas every morning.

I don’t like leaving negative reviews but in fairness to the paying customers, I think it’s important to be honest and accurate. This is a good location with level sites and good hook-up from what I could see, depending what your expectations are. The host was pleasant, professional and assisted when and where needed. Overall though, the campground facilities were a little run down and in need of some TLC. Rustic is the best way to describe it. The location has some old wooden steps leading to the river providing access. Road noise may be an issue for some, especially with the occasional truck using their “Jake Brake.” The price was reasonable compared to other campgrounds. Minimal WIFI apparently and cannot be used for streaming. Cell service was reasonable to good for ATT (it fluctuates) and I was told better for Verizon although I didn’t see that on my “MIFI” internet module.

Even trying to talk to the grounds people was absolutely atrocious. A true disgrace of business by the owners and the valley should be embarrassed to have them as a part of such a wonderful place.

Great place, and very well priced. Bathrooms are well kept and the showers were hot. Found some gold in the river and caught a very nice trout. We were very happy with our site and the campground as a whole.

Ark River Rim has served me and my family very well for many years. The owner, Jeff, is super friendly and helpful. We go to this spot every time we are in Buena Vista. The campground is right next to the Arkansas river and you can actually hike down to the river!

This was a simple, well-maintained campsite. My partner and I just got a tent site for a night. The campsite was quiet. The bathrooms were a nice touch compared to most campsites. The man who checked us in was polite and to the point. Would recommend a visit.

If you want a beautiful location, this is it. The owner, Jeff, keeps it clean. Restrooms and showers are great. One washer and one dryer but the cost is only $2 to wash and .75 to dry. Both were in excellent condition. Our site was great. Would definitely recommend this place Joyce Coomer.

Staying here for a few weeks while I'm traveling solo through the state. Dog friendly, river running nearby, and great customer service; what's not to like? The showers are amazing because let's be real, you could camp in the state parks and only get toilets that are basically holes in the ground. This place has running plumbing, cheap laundry, and hot water in the showers! Love it all. Certainly a gem in this town for sure.
