Bankhead/Corinth

Overview

Corinth Recreation Area, nestled within the Bankhead National Forest in Double Springs, Alabama, offers a premium outdoor experience for travelers seeking a natural retreat. Known for its peaceful atmosphere and stunning lakeside views, this facility provides a more refined camping experience than many typical national forest sites. It serves as a perfect base camp for exploring the rugged beauty of northern Alabama while staying directly on the shores of the crystal-clear Lewis Smith Lake.

Location & Surroundings

Located just north of Double Springs, the park is surrounded by the dense hardwoods and pines of an area often called the Land of a Thousand Waterfalls. The terrain is characterized by dramatic bluffs and deep canyons that lead directly to the water's edge. Because it is situated on Lewis Smith Lake, visitors are treated to some of the cleanest and deepest waters in the southeastern United States, providing a tranquil and scenic backdrop for any RV stay.

Amenities & Park Features

This park stands out for offering full hookup sites, including water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical service, which is a rare luxury for federal campgrounds. The sites feature paved parking pads that are well-spaced to ensure visitor privacy. On-site facilities include:

  • Modern bathhouses with climate control
  • A large swimming area with a sandy beach
  • A private boat ramp for easy lake access
  • Dedicated picnic areas and a playground

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure awaits in the nearby Sipsey Wilderness, where hikers can explore miles of trails leading to hidden waterfalls and ancient limestone cliffs. Anglers will appreciate the world-class fishing for striped and spotted bass on the lake. Additionally, the Natural Railroad Bridge is a short drive away, offering a unique geological feature to explore. Wildlife enthusiasts should keep an eye out for bald eagles and wild turkeys that frequent the forest canopy throughout the year.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature-loving RVers who want the serenity of a national forest without sacrificing modern conveniences like sewer and power. It is particularly well-suited for boating enthusiasts and families who enjoy spending their days on the water or exploring forest trails. If you prefer a quiet, well-maintained environment over a high-traffic commercial resort, Corinth provides the perfect balance of rugged Alabama scenery and comfortable amenities.

This is a wonderful national force campground. The restrooms are very clean. The entire facility is black topped. The spaces are very level. With the senior pass full hook ups $39 a night you can’t beat it. Bring your boat there’s a beautiful lake.

We had a wonderful time! Our camp host Jim Fincher was wonderful. He would stop by and ask if we were okay and if we needed anything..

Wow! I read a lot of positive reviews about this place and it still exceeded my expectations! The drive-up camping spots are perfectly spread out with plenty of privacy. The staff was present (and super friendly) but never intrusive. There’s also a lake on site with a large swimming area. Absolutely amazing and can’t wait to go back!

🌲Beautiful! Secluded! We were the only campers on the far side of "Yellowhammer Loop." 🏕Campsites were spaced far enough apart. 🚻Bathrooms were spread out & near to all campsites. Clean. 🧖🏻‍♀️Warm shower water. 🙋🏼‍♀️Hosts were very friendly & never intrusive, always ready to help with whatever needs arose. 🏖We were there before the beach & day use area was opened so cannot comment on it.

Loved my stay here. The hosts were great! A nasty storm came through and blew over and snapped off many trees! As soon as the worst of it was over the hosts were at my tent right away to make sure I was okay. That's how nasty that storm was. And the host was already starting to help clear the roadway with a chainsaw within 15 minutes after the storm. They had a LOT of debris to clean up. One pic is showing the thickness of the tree that fell on site 2. (No one was at site 2 thank God) It was nice and quiet during my stay. Saw deer and fawns 🦌 everyday.

Wonderful camping spot. Hostess, Jennifer, was such a sweet heart: so friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the area.... Can't say enough good things. Bathrooms were immaculately cleaned, showers were actually hot. Great experience

Got here to try and get a camping area the office says to call if nobody is in the office, done that before and the woman answered and got us in.. but this time we have called like 20 times and been sitting out of the gate waiting for a call back for at least an hour. Would really hate to have to go all the way back home because we have everything loaded up and really wanted to camp and have a good time. Doesn't look like we are gonna be able too though

We had a great weekend camping. The only downside was that we did not get our entrance until late the first evening. Fortunately there was another camper who helped us.
