Bass Lake State Beach and Campground

Overview

Bass Lake State Beach and Campground offers a quintessential lakeside experience in Northern Indiana. As the state's fourth-largest natural lake, it provides a serene backdrop for RVers looking to unwind. The park is well-regarded for its shallow shoreline, making it a staple for regional travelers seeking a relaxed atmosphere without the complexity of a massive resort. It offers a nostalgic charm that reminds visitors of classic summer vacations spent by the water.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Knox, IN, the campground sits directly across the road from the sparkling waters of Bass Lake. The surrounding landscape of Starke County is characterized by scenic rural vistas and agricultural fields, offering a quiet escape from urban noise. While the beach and the campground are separated by a local highway, the proximity to the water ensures that the cooling lake breeze is never far away. The area maintains a peaceful, small-town atmosphere that is perfect for a slow-paced getaway.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features 60 campsites, many of which provide electric hookups suitable for various RV sizes. Guests have access to modern comfort stations with hot showers and flush toilets, ensuring a comfortable stay. Families often gather at the central playground or use the provided fire rings and picnic tables for evening meals. A dump station is available on-site for convenient waste management, and the park’s layout is easy to navigate for those towing trailers or driving motorhomes.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water activities are the primary draw here, with the beach offering excellent swimming and sunbathing opportunities. Anglers often frequent the lake for bluegill and bass, while boaters enjoy the expansive surface area for motorized sports. For those looking to explore further into nature, Tippecanoe River State Park is just a short drive away, offering extensive hiking and bridle trails through lush forested land. The local area also features small-town diners and seasonal shops that add to the local flavor.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for families with young children who will appreciate the gentle, shallow waters of the swimming area. It is also a perfect fit for boaters and jet-ski enthusiasts who want easy access to a large natural lake. If you prefer a smaller, quieter campground over a sprawling commercial park, Bass Lake State Beach and Campground provides the intimate community feel and simple pleasures you are looking for during an Indiana summer.

Very nice. Only reason down fall is that the sand birs were horrible up by parking area. Otherwise a great time nice and shallow.

We were visiting Knox and stopped at Bass Lake Beach for a few hours. It was a cloudy Saturday and the beach was not crowded. The swimming area is very shallow, but easy to wade around. Lots of folks were out on jet skiis and boating. We had a relaxing time. It is 10.00 per car to go in and the restrooms were under renovation while we were there in mid July 2025.

Great place to camp for the weekend and walk across the street for the beach. Book in advance for holidays. It's mostly a seasonal campground.
