Overview

Beech Fork State Park offers a premier outdoor escape in the rolling hills of southwestern West Virginia. Spanning over 3,000 acres, this destination is centered around a 720-acre lake that serves as a hub for year-round recreation. The park provides a clean, well-maintained environment where families and nature enthusiasts can enjoy the rugged beauty of the Appalachian landscape. It balances developed camping facilities with the quiet, restorative serenity of the surrounding forest and expansive waterfront.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside Barboursville and the Huntington metro area, the park feels remarkably secluded despite its convenient proximity to city services. The terrain is characterized by lush hardwood forests and the winding shoreline of Beech Fork Lake. Travelers will find easy access from major highways, making it a convenient stop for those exploring the tristate region. The environment is rich with local wildlife and scenic overlooks, offering a peaceful backdrop for those looking to disconnect from the daily grind.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features 275 sites, including the popular Old Orchard area, which offers full hookups specifically designed for larger RVs. Visitors have access to multiple modern bathhouses, laundry facilities, and a large seasonal swimming pool. For those looking to explore the water, the park provides on-site boat rentals ranging from kayaks to pontoon boats. There are also several well-placed playgrounds and a comprehensive camp store, ensuring that guests have everything they need for a comfortable stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, the city of Huntington offers cultural sites such as the Huntington Museum of Art and the famous Ritter Park. History enthusiasts should visit the Heritage Farm Museum and Village, which provides a deep dive into Appalachian heritage. Within the state park itself, guests can explore over 14 miles of hiking trails or spend the day fishing for crappie and largemouth bass. The nearby village of Barboursville offers local dining and shopping to complement your outdoor adventure.

I had to cancel my reservation. They do not give you your money back. You get a credit to use the park. Being from Arizona i can't really use a credit. It is also non transferable. So if you know for sure life isn't going to change in 60 days don't don't make reservations. Really socks. Lost $105. That's alot for a park with no wifi or cell coverage.

Very nice park with great amenities. Please know that cellular signals can be nonexistent for some carriers (Verizon) and the WiFi is not that great. We camped in our RV, so I do not have any info on the cabins.

Our site was flooded our entire stay, the bathrooms were not cleaned once (same items on floor and mud on floor) from Sunday till Tuesday. The WiFi was turned off on Sunday at 4:30pm and not partially turned back on till Tuesday at 1:12pm. There is no cell service unless you drive to the office so all work or emergency’s have to wait till you drive to the camp office. There were several camp host and park staff driving around in the park, but there focus is on other non customer service/support activities. If I could give lower than 1 star I would

Not many people are here but beautiful park. Staff friendly. But campsite is a mess beer cans burnt in fire ring n trash also and the internet is not working. Restrooms clean. Shower house by our loop only has cold water. Paid a lot got not much. And pool is 8 dollars a person. Yah. I see now why middle of summer beautiful park but hardly anyone is here!

We stopped here with 2 other couples for a couple of nights on our way from Maryland to Kentucky. We stayed in the full hookup section due to the hot weather and wanting to run our air conditioners on 50 amp service. Loved TJ’s section but wished we could have stayed on one of the waterfront sites. They are so beautiful. Beautiful campground with large sites, wifi on every corner, nice camp store, game room, disc golf, pool, boating, canoe, kayak and paddle boat rentals! Great for biking, hiking, fishing. We are already planning to come back with our camping group in the fall! Road to get in is pretty winding with a hair pin curve or 2 and road is caving in on edges in some places. So take it slow and easy. But once your there is a wonderful campground! Forgot to take some photos!
