Belfair

Overview

Belfair State Park offers a quintessentially Pacific Northwest experience along the shores of the Hood Canal. Located near the southern tip of this glacial fjord, the park is celebrated for its shallow, warm saltwater beaches and expansive tidal flats. It serves as a premier destination for RVers seeking a blend of coastal relaxation and outdoor adventure. Whether you are coming for a weekend getaway or a longer exploration of the Kitsap Peninsula, the park provides a welcoming environment with deep roots in local recreation history.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Mason County just outside the town of Belfair, the park sits where Big Mission Creek and Little Mission Creek meet the sea. The landscape is defined by its panoramic views of the Hood Canal and, on clear days, distant glimpses of the Olympic Mountains. The surrounding area is lush with evergreen forests, creating a striking contrast against the salt marshes. Visitors often appreciate the proximity to the Theler Wetlands, which offer accessible boardwalk trails and exceptional birdwatching opportunities just a short drive away.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped for the modern traveler, featuring over 120 campsites with varying levels of service. RV enthusiasts will find a variety of accommodating features including:

  • Full hookup sites with water, electricity, and sewer connections.
  • A convenient on-site dump station for standard campsites.
  • Well-maintained restroom and shower facilities located near camping loops.

The grounds also include a playground, large grassy fields, and picnic shelters that are perfect for afternoon gatherings.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Activity revolves around the water here, making it a hotspot for shellfish harvesting, specifically for oysters and clams, during open seasons. The shallow waters are also ideal for wading, windsurfing, and kayaking along the shoreline. If you prefer land-based adventures, the nearby Tahuya State Forest provides an expansive network of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and off-road vehicle enthusiasts. Local shops and dining in the town of Belfair provide easy access to supplies and coastal cuisine.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for family-oriented travelers who want a safe and engaging environment for children to explore the tide pools. It is also a top choice for birdwatchers and nature photographers drawn to the diverse avian life in the salt marshes. Because of its accessible terrain and full-service hookups, it appeals to both novice campers and seasoned RVers looking for a convenient home base while exploring the broader Olympic Peninsula region.

My favorite park. It's nice place. You have camping area with shower, you have beach, you have play ground. So far it's a great park.

Great spot. Camping is fun here and its very clean. The bathrooms are older but everyone is respectful and they are clean. We stayed in the tree loop and got a great spot in the shade and bordering the beach area. Great atmosphere and a great place to camp with kids

Had our first trip camping as a family here! It will become a yearly spot! The park and beach are a nice variety of things to do with the kids. The nearby bathrooms and showers were nice to have. Overall the park was very clean and good amount of staff on site! It's close to town so if you need something you can just pop in. It's definitely a great camp spot especially if you have little kids.

The staff are friendly and courteous. Our original site was very uneven. They were able to find open sites for our MH that we could look at and possibly move to. We found one slightly bigger, 50 amp vs. 30 amp, and level. Without hesitation, they moved us to that spot. This is definitely one place to keep on our list. The lake is awesome, and the view is incredible.

We really like Belfair State Park for the park itself and as a hub for exploring. So far, we have stayed in 3 different sites (138, 114 & 224) in 2 different loops (Beach Loop & Main Loop) in our 30-foot glamper. This last weekend was in the Main Loop. All the sites are spacious, clean, and provide enough privacy. We prefer the pull through spots, and it was no problem getting in and setting up. Full hookups, we even had cell service (Verizon), and basic channels come in! It was raining the whole trip but it's expected in February and March. It wasn't busy at all during this time, either. The camp host was friendly and very nice! We did get to see one of the three Great Blue Heron that live in the area around low tide. During low tide, the rocks were a bit slippery, and the mud could get deep! Just use caution. My only complaint is the noise. In site 224, beyond the fence, is the main road. We could hear the road noise all day and night. We did spend a good chunk of time exploring, so the daytime noise didn't bother us, but it is there. It was the night road noise that was bothersome. When you book a site near the main road, it is a gamble, and for some, they can block it out. I just wanted to let people know it's there if they pick the sites near the road. All in all, it was worth it. We like the area and will have preference to some sites but would actually stay in this same site if our preferred sites weren't open.
